In order to observe the freedom from being a Portugal century for over 300 years, the Brazil Independence Day is celebrated every year on 07th September. In a true Brazilian spirit, “Sete de Setembro” is the prominent celebration that every Brazilian irrespective of what region they hail from, celebrate with great vigour. Under the leadership of Dom Pedro, Brazil proclaimed independence from the colonists in the year 1822. From then on, the country was under a monarchical system of Government until 1889 when the military announced the proclamation of republic. History of Brazil Independence Day 

Upon being under the rule of Portuguese for over 322 years, Brazil finally gained independence in 1822. The freedom movement in Brazil saw a great evolution when the French army led by the Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte invaded Portugal. As the Portugal monarchs fled the country fearing the oppression, the Portuguese court was moved from  Lisbon to Rio de Janeiro (the capital of colonial Brazil). 

Later in 1815, the crown prince, Regent John VI changed the status of the country to the rank of a Kingdom that was known as the United Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil and the Algarves. After this major switch, the kingdom responded less to colonial rule and instead possessed more administrative powers. 

When Regent John VI returned to Europe in 1820 , the prince Royal Pedro was appointed as the regent of Brazil. Under his regency, the Brazilian people were united more than ever before and led to the Brazilian Independence. In short, this change of the status of Brazil from a colony to a kingdom is regarded as the major milestone that is responsible for Brazil’s independence in 1822.
