GATE Qualifying Marks 2027
Qualifying marks are the minimum marks you need to be called “GATE qualified”. As per the usual rule in GATE brochures, the qualifying marks for the General category are the higher of a fixed base mark and a statistical value based on the marks of all candidates in that paper. For OBC-NCL and EWS candidates, the cutoff is a fraction (90 percent) of the General cutoff, and for SC, ST and PwD candidates it is two-thirds of the General cutoff. GATE Result Cutoff vs Admission Cutoff
Qualifying marks only decide whether you are GATE qualified. For M.Tech admission or a PSU job, the institute or PSU sets its own cutoff, which is usually much higher than the qualifying marks. So do not judge your chances only by the qualifying mark. Compare your score with the previous year’s cutoffs of the institutes and PSUs you want.
