Searching for GATE 2027 vacancy? First, an important point: GATE itself is an exam, not a recruitment. It does not have vacancies. The jobs come from PSUs and government organizations that use your GATE score to shortlist engineers. This blog explains PSU recruitment through GATE 2027, the organizations that have used GATE scores, how the process works, who can apply and when to expect notifications.
GATE 2027 Vacancy: Current Status
| Particulars | Status |
|---|---|
| GATE 2027 exam | 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21 February 2027 |
| GATE 2027 result | 19 March 2027 |
| Official vacancy numbers for GATE 2027 | Not announced yet. Vacancies are published by each PSU in its own notification |
| When PSU notifications are expected | Usually after the GATE result. Exact dates differ for each organization |
| Where to apply | On the official career page of each PSU, not on the GATE portal |
GATE registration does not automatically register you for any PSU recruitment. Every PSU invites applications separately, and some PSUs only consider the current year’s GATE score. Plan to apply in the same cycle in which you qualify.
How Does Recruitment Through GATE 2027 Work?
- Appear and qualify in GATE 2027 in your test paper.
- Watch for PSU notifications after the result. PSUs publish them on their official websites and in national newspapers, Employment News and Rozgar Samachar.
- Apply to the PSU using your GATE registration number or score, within the PSU’s own deadline.
- Shortlisting is done on the basis of GATE score, as per each organization’s norms.
- Further selection stages such as group discussion, personal interview, document verification and medical examination are decided by each PSU and vary from one organization to another.
The recruitment details differ for every PSU. Always follow the notification of the organization you are applying to.
PSUs That Have Used GATE 2027 Score for Recruitment
The official GATE 2027 brochure lists these organizations as PSUs that have used GATE scores in their recruitment process in the past few years.
| Sector | Organizations named in the brochure |
|---|---|
| Power and energy | BHEL, NTPC, Power Grid Corporation (POWERGRID), Grid India, POSOCO, NPCIL, NEEPCO, NLCIL, DVC, CVPPL, HVPNL, OPTCL, PSPCL |
| Oil and gas | IOCL, ONGC, GAIL (India) Limited, Engineers India Limited (EIL) |
| Steel, mining and metals | SAIL, RINL, NMDC, NALCO, Coal India Limited (CIL) |
| Transport, infrastructure and telecom | Airports Authority of India (AAI), NHAI, NCRTC, BSNL, CRIS |
| Electronics, shipbuilding and others | ECIL, Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDSL) |
Central government (Group A): direct recruitment to posts such as Senior Field Officer (Tele), Senior Research Officer (Crypto) and Senior Research Officer (S&T) in the Cabinet Secretariat is conducted based on GATE score, as per the brochure.
Note on current-year hiring: the brochure lists organizations that used GATE in the past. It is not a guarantee that each will recruit through GATE 2027. Education portals have reported that organizations such as NTPC, POWERGRID, GAIL, DRDO, THDC, Grid India and Delhi Transco may recruit using GATE 2027 scores, and have reported expected hiring by NPCIL, EIL, ISRO and BARC. Treat these as expectations until the organization publishes its own notification. Some organizations may recruit through their own exams instead of GATE.
GATE 2027 – Which Branches Get PSU Opportunities?
PSU hiring through GATE is concentrated in core engineering branches. Recruiting organizations usually ask for specific GATE papers, so check which paper code a PSU accepts before choosing your GATE paper. Commonly seen paper codes in PSU hiring include:
| Branch | GATE paper code |
|---|---|
| Electrical Engineering | EE |
| Electronics and Communication | EC |
| Mechanical Engineering | ME |
| Civil Engineering | CE |
| Instrumentation Engineering | IN |
| Chemical Engineering | CH |
| Computer Science and IT | CS |
| Mining, Metallurgical, Petroleum Engineering | MN, MT, PE |
This list is general guidance. Each PSU decides which papers and degrees it accepts.
Eligibility for PSU Jobs Through GATE 2027
There are two layers of eligibility.
1. Eligibility to appear in GATE 2027
- Currently in the 3rd year or higher of an undergraduate degree, or completed a government-approved degree
- No age limit for the GATE exam
- Full details are in our GATE 2027 eligibility criteria blog (add internal link)
2. Eligibility set by each PSU
Every PSU sets its own criteria in its notification. These usually cover:
- Indian citizenship
- Educational qualification and minimum marks in the engineering degree
- Age limit, which is often in the range of the early to late twenties, with relaxation for reserved categories as per rules
- Medical fitness
- A valid GATE score in the paper it specifies
The age limit and marks rule vary by organization, so read the notification before applying.
GATE 2027 Score and PSU Shortlisting
PSUs shortlist on the GATE score, not on raw marks.
- The GATE score is calculated on a scale where the General qualifying mark gets a score of 350.
- The mean of the top 0.1% of candidates (or top 10 candidates, whichever is larger) gets a score of 900.
- Qualifying marks for General = max(25, min(40, mean + standard deviation)). OBC-NCL/EWS get 90% of this, and SC/ST/PwD get two-thirds.
- Qualifying GATE is only the first step. PSU cut-offs are usually much higher than the qualifying mark and change every year with the number of vacancies and applicants.
- The GATE 2027 scorecard is valid for three years, but many PSUs accept only the current year’s score. Check each notification.
Other Career Options After GATE 2027
If PSU vacancies are not your only goal, GATE also supports:
- M.Tech. and direct Ph.D. admissions in institutes supported by the Ministry of Education, with possible scholarship or assistantship. MoE guidelines prescribe at least 70% weightage for GATE in these admissions.
- Fellowships awarded by various government organizations, where qualifying GATE is a minimum requirement.
- Admission without MoE scholarship at colleges that accept GATE scores.
The brochure clearly states that qualifying GATE does not guarantee admission, scholarship or a job.

Tips to Prepare for GATE-based Recruitment
- Choose a GATE paper that the PSUs you are targeting accept.
- Focus on a high GATE score, since PSU cut-offs are above the qualifying mark.
- Revise the revised GATE 2027 syllabus, in which at least 90% of questions come from Core Topics.
- Solve previous year papers (2007 to 2026 are available on the GATE website) and take mock tests.
- Keep your documents ready: degree marksheets, category certificates, ID and GATE scorecard.
- Follow PSU career pages, Employment News and Rozgar Samachar for notifications. Beware of fake sites. GATE offices never sell question papers or syllabus.
There is no separate GATE 2027 vacancy list. The opportunities come from PSU recruitment through GATE 2027, which opens after the result on 19 March 2027. Choose your paper carefully, aim for a strong GATE score and keep checking PSU career pages. We will update this page as soon as official notifications are released.
