Using the right reference books is key to effective preparation. They help you understand concepts clearly, practice important topics, and focus on what’s relevant for the exam.
1. Start with the Syllabus
Before opening any book, refer to the latest syllabus. This helps you identify the topics that are actually important for the exam. Avoid reading unnecessary chapters that are not in the syllabus.
2. Choose the Right Books
Focus on mandatory textbooks and standard reference guides. Stick to one main book per subject and use additional books only for clarification or deeper understanding.
3. Prioritize Topics
After reviewing the syllabus, list the topics by weightage and difficulty. Start with high-weightage modules like Building Construction, Surveying, and Building Drawing.
4. Active Reading
- Take short notes while studying.
- Highlight formulas, key points, and definitions.
- Solve practice examples wherever possible, especially for Estimating, Drawing, and AutoCAD modules.
5. Refer, Don’t Memorize Everything
Use books to understand concepts, not to memorize the entire content. Focus on diagrams, construction methods, and standard procedures.
6. Revise Regularly
Set aside time for weekly revision. Go over notes, practice drawings, and formulas repeatedly to retain information.
7. Solve Previous Papers
Books are best utilized when combined with previous years’ question papers. This helps you understand the exam pattern and question style.
8. Time Management
While books are essential, don’t spend too much time on a single topic. Stick to your study schedule and cover all modules proportionally.
