Why Solve Kerala PSC LGS Previous Year Question Papers?
1: Which Year First Assembly Election was held in Kerala?
- You learn the real exam pattern. Seeing a full paper is the quickest way to understand how the sections are laid out and how the questions are worded.
- You find out which topics repeat. Kerala PSC often returns to the same areas, such as Kerala geography, Renaissance leaders, basic science and arithmetic.
- You practise under time pressure. The LGS paper is objective (OMR), so speed and accuracy both count.
- You check your own level. Scoring a past paper under exam conditions shows where you stand against the cut-off you are aiming for.
- You learn from the answer keys. Reviewing the provisional and final keys teaches you how the Commission settles disputed answers.

The Kerala PSC LGS Previous Year Question Papers follows the syllabus fixed by the Commission, so previous papers are best read alongside it.
1. General Knowledge and Kerala-based questions carry the most weight. In the preliminary exam, General Knowledge, Current Affairs and Renaissance in Kerala make up 60 of 100 marks. In the main exam, General Knowledge (40) and Current Affairs (20) again make up 60 marks.
2. Science is basic school-level knowledge. Expect questions on the human body, vitamins and deficiency diseases, elements, the atom, heat, sound, light and the Solar System. These are direct, factual questions.
3. Arithmetic and mental ability are 20 marks of practice-based scoring. LCM and HCF, fractions, averages, profit and loss, time and distance, series, analogies, coding and position-based problems show up regularly. They reward practice more than memory.
4. Kerala-specific facts come up repeatedly. Rivers and backwaters, hydroelectric projects, wildlife sanctuaries, national parks, fisheries and the social reformers (Ayyankali, Chattampi Swamikal, Sree Narayana Guru, Pandit Karuppan, V.T. Bhattathiripad, Kumara Guru, Mannathu Padmanabhan) are standard topics.
5. Public health appears in the main exam. Communicable diseases, lifestyle diseases and Kerala’s health programmes are tested as a separate 10-mark section.
| Priority | Area | Why |
|---|---|---|
| High | Kerala (geography, Renaissance, basic facts) | Carries the largest block of marks in both stages |
| High | Current affairs | Worth 10 marks in prelims and 20 in mains |
| High | Indian freedom struggle and post-independence India | 10 marks each in prelims, 5 each in mains |
| Medium | Constitution, rights and duties, national symbols | Short, factual and easy to revise |
| Medium | Science (Biology and Physics/Chemistry) | 20 marks in prelims, 10 in mains |
| Medium | Public health (mains) | 10 marks in a single section |
| Scoring | Arithmetic and mental ability | 20 marks, highly practice-driven |

How to Solve an LGS Previous Question Paper: Step by Step
- Pick one paper and set a timer. Sit in a quiet place and use an OMR-style sheet if you can.
- Attempt it without notes or search. The aim is to measure what you actually remember.
- Mark your answers, then check them against the answer key. Use the final key where one is available.
- Apply the negative marking rule to get your real score, as per the Commission’s norms.
- List every wrong answer and every guess. Write the correct answer and the reason in a notebook.
- Tag each mistake by topic (Kerala, current affairs, science, arithmetic, mental ability). The tags show your weak areas.
- Revise the weak topics from the syllabus, then re-attempt the same paper after a week.
- Repeat with the next paper. Aim for one full paper every two to three days in the last month of preparation.

- Memorising answers. The same question rarely repeats word for word, but the same facts often return in a different form.
- Skipping the answer key review. Most of the learning happens when you study why an answer is right.
- Ignoring the arithmetic and mental ability section. These marks are the easiest to earn with practice.
- Solving papers only in the last week. Start early and use papers to guide your study plan.
- Guessing blindly. Where wrong answers cost marks, guess only when you can rule out options.
