RRBs with Very Limited or Zero Vacancies for Section Controller 2026
Some RRBs have very few or no vacancies notified in this cycle, which is important for candidates planning their zone preference strategy:
- RRB Ajmer (WCR): Only 1 vacancy (reserved for SC category)
- RRB Guwahati (NFR): Only 1 vacancy
- RRB Jammu-Srinagar (NR): 0 vacancies (No posts notified currently)
- RRB Mumbai (SCR): 0 vacancies (No posts notified currently)
Candidates should factor in these numbers carefully, since choosing an RRB with very limited vacancies increases competition intensity relative to the number of seats available.
Important Guidelines on RRB Section Controller 2026 Vacancy Details
- Provisional Nature of Vacancies: The vacancies indicated in this CEN are provisional and may undergo change — either increase or decrease — or may even become NIL in total or for specific Railways/Units/Communities at a later stage, depending on the actual requirement of the Railway Administration. Additional posts may also be included later if required.
- Right to Cancel Vacancies: The Railway Administration reserves the right to cancel notified vacancies at any stage at its own discretion, and such a decision will be final and binding on all candidates. In case of cancellation of notified vacancies, the examination fee will not be refunded, except for candidates who have attended the 1st Stage CBT.
- Reservation Framework: Vacancies for SC, ST, OBC (Non-Creamy Layer), and EWS are provided wherever applicable and admissible, as communicated by the Indenting Railways/Production Units under extant government rules.
- PwBD Vacancy Clarification: Where PwBD vacancies are shown separately as backlog vacancies (without indication of community), these are backlog vacancies from the past and are NOT included in the regular community vacancies shown in the CEN. For this particular CEN, no PwBD backlog vacancies have been notified for Section Controller.
- Ex-Servicemen Vacancy Utilization: Ex-Servicemen are eligible for the vacancies specifically reserved for them (5 vacancies total across RRB Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Ranchi ECR, and Siliguri). If no reserved vacancies exist against a specific RRB, Ex-Servicemen candidates may still apply against regular vacancies and continue to avail age relaxation and fee exemption benefits.
- PwBD Vacancy Utilization Rule: In case vacancies reserved for PwBD cannot be filled due to non-availability of suitable candidates under a specific disability category, such vacancies will not be filled and will be treated as a shortfall for this notification.
- Backlog Vacancy Filling Order: For backlog vacancies (if any), if PwBD candidates of the specific disability for which the vacancy is earmarked are unavailable, they can be filled by PwBD candidates of other disabilities suitable for the post. If still unfilled, they are then filled by regular (non-PwBD) candidates in order of merit.
- Zone Preference: Candidates must give their order of Railway Zone preference under their chosen RRB while applying. Zone allotment will be made based on merit, medical standard, and vacancy position, subject to the option exercised. However, RRBs also reserve the right to allot a Railway Zone not opted for by the candidate, if considered necessary in administrative interest.
- Shortfall Utilization: In case of shortfall in empanelment of candidates or other exigencies, the RRB reserves the right to utilize candidates down the merit list, based on merit and the Railway option indicated by the candidate.
- Vacancy Reference Document: The complete post parameters (qualification, medical standard, suitability for the post) are provided in Annexure-A, while the RRB, Railway, and post-wise vacancy details, including reservation breakdowns for SC, ST, OBC-NCL, EWS, ExSM, and PwBD, are provided in Annexure-B of the CEN.
This blog is based on the vacancy details published in Annexure-B of the official CEN No. 03/2026 notification issued by the Railway Recruitment Board, Ministry of Railways. Since vacancies are provisional and subject to change, candidates are strongly advised to check the official RRB websites for the latest vacancy updates before and after submitting their application.
