RRB Section Controller Eligibility Criteria 2026 –Â Educational Qualification
The minimum educational qualification eligibility for the Section Controller post is a Graduate Degree from a recognized University or its equivalent. This is a mandatory requirement, and candidates must possess this qualification as on the closing date of online application submission, i.e., 14.08.2026.
Candidates who are awaiting final results of their qualifying examination are NOT eligible to apply and should not apply under any circumstances. Only those who have already completed and obtained their qualification certificate by the closing date meet this eligibility requirement.
Regarding certificate dates:
If the educational qualification certificate (provisional or regular) carries a date of issue after the closing date of the notification, candidates must instead submit the consolidated mark sheet showing the date of declaration of the final qualifying exam, or individual semester/year mark sheets with declaration dates. If no date is available on these documents, a certificate from the Board/University confirming the date of declaration must be produced during Document Verification.
RRB Section Controller Eligibility Criteria 2026 – Medical Standard (A-2 Standard)
Medical fitness is a core eligibility component for the Section Controller post, classified under Medical Standard A-2:
| Medical Parameter | Required Standard |
|---|---|
| General Fitness | Physically fit in all respects |
| Distant Vision | 6/9, 6/9 without glasses (No fogging test permitted) |
| Near Vision | Sn 0.6, 0.6 without glasses |
| Additional Vision Requirements | Must pass Colour Vision, Binocular Vision, Night Vision, and Myopic Vision tests |
Critical Eligibility Restriction: Candidates who have undergone LASIK surgery or any other surgical procedure to correct refractive error are NOT eligible to apply for the Section Controller post. Such candidates must submit a self-declaration as per the prescribed format during Document Verification confirming they have not undergone such surgery. This is one of the strictest eligibility conditions in this recruitment and disqualifies candidates regardless of their current vision correction status through surgery.
Ex-Servicemen candidates are governed by a separate, distinct medical standard as detailed under Para 534 of the Indian Railway Medical Manual (IRMM) Volume I.
Note: Candidates failing the prescribed medical fitness test at any stage will not be considered suitable for empanelment, and no alternate appointment will be offered.
RRB Section Controller Eligibility Criteria 2026 – Reservation-Based
Eligibility for reserved category benefits under this CEN depends on candidates meeting specific documentary and community-status requirements:
SC/ST Eligibility: Candidates must possess a valid caste/tribe certificate in the prescribed format (Annexure I) issued by a competent authority to claim SC/ST reservation and associated age relaxation.
OBC-NCL Eligibility: OBC candidates falling under the “creamy layer” are NOT entitled to OBC reservation eligibility. To be eligible, the candidate’s caste must be listed in the current central list of OBCs, and the certificate must specifically state the candidate does not belong to the creamy layer. The certificate must be issued on or after 01.04.2026 but not later than the closing date of application. A self-declaration confirming non-creamy-layer status must also be submitted during Document Verification.
OBC candidates present in a State list but not covered under the Central List of OBCs are NOT eligible to claim reservation benefits.
EWS Eligibility: To be eligible under the Economically Weaker Sections category, a candidate’s family gross annual income must be below Rs. 8 lakh for the financial year 2025-26. Additionally, families owning any of the following assets are excluded from EWS eligibility regardless of income:
- 5 acres of agricultural land and above
- Residential flat of 1000 sq. ft. and above
- Residential plot of 100 sq. yards and above in notified municipalities
- Residential plot of 200 sq. yards and above in non-notified areas

EBC Eligibility: (Fee Concession Only): Economically Backward Class candidates, whose annual family income is below Rs. 50,000, are eligible only for fee concession — NOT job reservation. This is an important distinction, as EBC, EWS, and OBC are three completely separate and distinct eligibility categories that should not be confused with one another.
