The GATE 2027 exam begins on 6 February 2027, and a clear plan can turn your remaining time into a strong score. This GATE 2027 study plan gives you a day-by-day 120-day schedule built around the official exam pattern: 65 questions, 100 marks and 3 hours, with General Aptitude (15 marks) and, in most engineering papers, Engineering Mathematics (13 marks).
You will find five phases (foundation, core learning, revision, mock tests and final revision), a daily timetable, and a branch-wise subject schedule for CSE, ECE, EE, Mechanical, Civil and DA. Follow it consistently, practise with paper-wise mock tests, and you can walk into the exam hall prepared.
Before You Start: Essential Rules for the GATE 2027 Study Plan
- Study hours: the plan assumes 6 to 8 hours a day for students and 3 to 4 hours a day for working candidates (see the adjustment section).
- Six study days and one review day every week. Use the review day for a subject test, error log revision and a short rest.
- General Aptitude every day for 30 to 45 minutes. It is 15 marks in every paper.
- One standard book per subject and the official previous year papers (2007 to 2026) from gate2027.iitm.ac.in.
- Use the on-screen calculator for all numerical practice, since it is the only calculator allowed in the exam.
- Check your paper’s revised syllabus on the official website. The syllabus of most papers is revised for GATE 2027.
GATE 2027 Study Plan for 120 Days
The GATE 2027 Study Plan for 120 Days helps candidates prepare with a structured daily schedule. It covers subject-wise preparation, revision, previous years’ question papers and mock tests to help you manage time effectively and aim for a high score in the exam.
Phase 1: Foundation (Days 1 to 10)
| Day |
Task |
| 1 |
Download the syllabus of your paper (Appendix D of the brochure or the official website). List all sections and topics. Note the marks pattern of your paper |
| 2 |
Take a diagnostic test: one previous year paper of your branch in 3 hours with the on-screen calculator |
| 3 |
Analyse the test. Mark each subject as strong, average or weak. Note which questions you lost marks on and why |
| 4 |
Pick one standard book per subject, an online test series and the official PYQs. Set up a tracker sheet and the error log |
| 5 |
General Aptitude baseline: take one GA set (10 questions). Start a 45-minute daily GA habit. Revise Engineering Mathematics basics (matrices, calculus) |
| 6 to 7 |
Revise prerequisite basics of your weak subjects (class 11 and 12 and first-year engineering topics) |
| 8 |
Learn the exam interface: attempt an official mock. Practise MCQ, MSQ and NAT question types |
| 9 |
Make a weekly timetable that fits your college or job. Block fixed study hours |
| 10 |
Review day: first subject test and plan for Phase 2 |
Phase 2: Core Learning, First Pass (Days 11 to 70)
In these 60 days you learn every section of the syllabus once. Each day has one new topic, practice questions, revision and General Aptitude. Use the table for your branch.

Other papers: how to build your own table
- List the sections of your paper from the syllabus.
- Give 60 days in total to Days 11 to 70.
- Share days in proportion to the marks and your weak areas. Give more days to large and weak sections and fewer to small sections.
- Keep Engineering Mathematics (if your paper has it) in the first 5 to 10 days of Phase 2, since it supports other subjects.
- For papers with optional sections (XE, XL, AR, GE, RA, GG, XH), study the sections you will choose in depth first.
How to study each subject in Phase 2
- First half of the allocated days: read the book or watch lectures, and make short notes with formulas.
- Second half: solve topic-wise questions, including previous year questions on the topic.
- Last day of each subject: take a 30-question test on the subject and add mistakes to the error log.
- Every 7th day: the review day described above.

GATE 2027 Revision System: How to Remember What You Study
- Same-day revision: 10 minutes at night on what you studied.
- Day 2, Day 7 and Day 21 revision: revisit each topic using short notes. This is built into the daily timetable (evening block) and the weekly review day.
- Formula sheet: keep one sheet per subject and update it every review day.
- Error log: a notebook or sheet with the question, the mistake and the correct method. Re-attempt these questions after 7 days.
- Three revision rounds: first pass (Phase 2), second pass (Phase 3) and third pass (Phases 4 and 5 using short notes and the error log).
Tips for Making GATE 2027 Study Plan
- Be consistent. A fixed time and place every day builds the habit.
- Do not skip the review day. It is where retention improves.
- Do not add new books midway. Finish one source before touching another.
- Protect your health. Sleep 7 to 8 hours, take short breaks and walk daily.
- Limit distractions. Keep your phone away during study blocks.
- Adjust, but do not abandon. If you fall behind by a day or two, merge two small topics and continue. Do not restart the plan.
- Track your progress weekly. Use the tracker and compare mock scores over time.
GATE 2027 Study Plan – Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Starting mocks too late or taking them without analysis
- Studying only favourite subjects and leaving weak ones
- Ignoring General Aptitude and Engineering Mathematics
- Using the old syllabus instead of the revised GATE 2027 syllabus
- Blind guessing in MCQs
- Not practising with the on-screen calculator
- Learning new topics in the last week
- Believing fake websites or messages. GATE offices never sell question papers or syllabus
GATE 2027 Exam Day Checklist
- Admit card (colour A4 printout) and the original photo ID used in your application.
- Reach the centre early. You can take your seat 40 minutes before the start and log in 20 minutes before. Login is not allowed after 15 minutes from the scheduled start. You cannot leave before the exam ends.
- Mobile phones (even switched off), watches, calculators, wallets, papers and electronic devices are strictly prohibited.
- Use the scribble pad for rough work. Write your name and registration number on it first.
- Follow your three-pass strategy and keep an eye on the clock.
A good GATE 2027 study plan gives every day a purpose: learn in Phase 2, revise in Phase 3, test yourself in Phase 4 and polish in Phase 5. Follow the timetable, practise with paper-wise mock tests, analyse every test and keep your health and focus steady. Start today and use the Entri app for mock tests and notes to stay on track.
