The Kerala Public Service Commission (KPSC) has announced anticipated statewide vacancies for the post of Assistant Prison Officer 2026 under the Prisons and Correctional Services Department. The exact number of vacancies will be determined later based on departmental requirements.
As per the official notification (Category No. 420/2025), differently abled candidates and female candidates are not eligible to apply for this post. The selection process, eligibility criteria, and related service conditions are governed by G.O. (P) No. 89/2014/Home dated 06.05.2014, G.O. (P) No. 266/2010/Home dated 09.12.2010, and G.O. (P) No. 337/2012/Home dated 28.12.2012.
The ranked list prepared by the Kerala PSC will remain valid for a minimum period of one year and up to three years, or until a new list is published. Selected candidates will undergo a two-year probation period within three years of service, along with mandatory in-service training and must pass the Kerala Jail Subordinate Officers Test during probation.

The Kerala Public Service Commission (KPSC) has prescribed specific eligibility criteria for candidates applying for the Assistant Prison Officer (Category No. 420/2025) post in the Prisons and Correctional Services Department. - The maximum age limit in any case shall not exceed 50 years, as per Para (2) of the General Conditions (except Para 2(i)).
Educational Qualification
- Pass in SSLC or its equivalent qualification.
- Qualifications recognized by government orders as equivalent or higher will also be accepted.
- Candidates must produce proof of equivalent/higher qualification when required by the Commission.
- Rule 10(a)(ii) of Part II of the Kerala State & Subordinate Service Rules (KS&SSR) is applicable.

Note:
- Each eye must have a full field of vision.

Candidates must qualify in any five of the following eight events under the National Physical Efficiency One Star Standard Test:

Additional Notes
- Physical measurements will be taken before the PET. Candidates failing to meet the prescribed measurements will not be allowed to participate.
- Candidates must present an original medical certificate (from a Government Medical Officer not below the rank of Assistant Surgeon/Junior Consultant) at the time of the PET and upload it in their PSC OTR Profile before certificate verification.
- NCC Certificate Holders (‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’) will receive 2%, 3%, and 5% weightage marks respectively.
- Meritorious Sports Persons will receive extra marks as per Para 6 of General Conditions.
- Students Police Cadet (SPC) certificate holders will be awarded weightage marks as per G.O.(Ms) No. 06/2025/P&ARD dated 01.03.2025.
Kerala PSC Assistant Prison Officer Selection Process 2026
The Kerala PSC Assistant Prison Officer 2026 selection process involves multiple stages to ensure the recruitment of physically fit and qualified candidates.
- Written/OMR/Online Test – Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria will first appear for a written or online examination conducted by the Kerala Public Service Commission (KPSC).
- Physical Measurement Test (PMT) – Shortlisted candidates must undergo physical measurements as per the prescribed standards.

1. One Time Registration (OTR)
