Age Limit

• Age: 20 to 40 years
• Candidates applying for the post of Higher Secondary School Teacher (HSST) in Hindi must be born between January 2, 1984, and January 1, 2004, inclusive.
• There is an upper age limit relaxation up to 43 years as of January 1, 2024, for Ministerial Staff under the Higher Secondary Education Department.
• Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Communities are eligible for usual age relaxation benefits as per government norms.
• Candidates must refer to Government Order (GO(P) No. 36/2005/Gl.Edn. dated February 4, 2005) for detailed conditions regarding age relaxation.

Educational Qualification

• Candidates must hold a Master’s Degree in the concerned subject with not less than 50% marks from any University in Kerala, or an equivalent qualification recognized by a University in Kerala.
• (i) B.Ed. in the concerned subject obtained through a regular course from any University in Kerala, or an equivalent qualification recognized by a University in Kerala.
• (ii) In the absence of candidates with B.Ed. in the concerned subject, a B.Ed. degree acquired in the concerned faculty as specified in the Acts and Statutes of any University in Kerala is acceptable.
• (iii) If candidates with B.Ed. degrees specified in (i) and (ii) are not available, individuals with a B.Ed. degree in any subject acquired through a regular course from any University in Kerala, or an equivalent qualification recognized by any University in Kerala, may be considered.
• Must have passed the State Eligibility Test (SET) for the post of Higher Secondary School Teacher conducted by Government of Kerala or by the agency authorized by the State Government.

Points to Remember

1. Candidates without a B.Ed. degree may be considered if they hold a Master’s degree with at least 50% marks and have passed the State Eligibility Test. Preference will be given to those with a Ph.D./M.Phil. degree or who have qualified in Junior Research Fellowship/National Eligibility Test. Such teachers must obtain a B.Ed. degree at their own expense within five years from their date of joining.
2. Candidates who have passed Language Teachers Training/Diploma in Hindi Teaching Course are exempted from the requirement to acquire a B.Ed. qualification.
3. Individuals with an M.Ed. degree in the relevant subject recognized by any University in Kerala are exempted from the B.Ed. qualification.
4. Weightage marks will be awarded for non-qualifying degrees such as M.Phil., Ph.D., and Post Doctoral Fellowship, provided they are in subjects related to the essential qualifications for the post. The marks awarded are as follows:
   • Non-Qualifying M.Phil.: 2 marks
   • Non-Qualifying Ph.D.: 4 marks
   • Both M.Phil and Ph.D. (Non-Qualifying): 5 marks
   • Post Doctoral Fellowship: 2 marks
5. However, if Ph.D./M.Phil./Post Doctoral Fellowship is a required qualification for the post, no weightage marks will be awarded.

Various Exemptions are granted:

• Candidates who have passed the State Level Eligibility Test (SLET) for College Lecturers conducted by the Government of Kerala are exempted from the State Eligibility Test for Higher Secondary School Teachers.
• Those who have qualified the National Eligibility Test/Junior Research Fellowship are exempted from the State Eligibility Test.
• Individuals with a Ph.D./M.Phil./M.Ed. degree are exempted from the State Eligibility Test, provided their M.Phil. degree is from a Kerala University or recognized as equivalent.
• Teachers with 10 years of approved teaching service at the High School level in the General Education subordinate service are exempted from the State Eligibility Test.
• SC/ST and Differently Abled candidates are eligible for a 5% relaxation in their Post Graduation marks as per G.O.(Ms) No.288/15/Gl.Edn. Dated 13.11.15.

Note: Rule 10 a(ii) of part II of KS&SSR applies. Candidates claiming equivalent qualifications must provide an equivalency certificate or relevant Government Order during certificate verification. Any discrepancy in caste/community as claimed in the application and the SSLC book must be supported by a Gazette notification along with Non-Creamy Layer Certificate/Community Certificate during certificate verification.
