Age Limit:
- The candidates born between 02.01.1981 and 01.01.2001 (both dates included) are eligible to apply for the post
- Generally, age relaxation is given to candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Communities.
- The relaxation in upper age limit upto 43 (Forty Three) years as on the 1st day of January 2021.
- The eligible candidates shall be allowed to the qualified Ministerial Staff under Higher Secondary Education Department for direct recruitment to the category of Higher Secondary School Teacher
Education Qualification:
- The candidates with Master’s Degree in the concerned subject with not less than 50% marks
from any of the Universities in Kerala. - Alternatively, a qualification recognized as equivalent degree in the respective subject by a University in Kerala.
- The applicants with B.Ed degree in the concerned subject acquired after a regular course of study from any of the Universities in Kerala .
- Alternatively, a qualification recognized as equivalent thereto by a University in Kerala.
- In the absence of candidates with B.Ed Degree in the concerned subject, B.Ed Degree acquired in the concerned faculty as specified in the Acts and Statutes of any of the Universities in Kerala.
- Candidates with B.Ed Degree in any subject acquired after a regular course of study from any of the Universities in Kerala.
- Alternatively, a qualification recognized as equivalent thereto by any of the Universities in Kerala.
- The candidates must have passed the State Eligibility Test (SET) for the post of Higher
Secondary School Teachers conducted by Government of Kerala or by the agency authorized by the State Government. - If a candidate lacks B.Ed Degree, another candidate having Masters Degree with not less than 50% marks and who have passed the State Eligibility Test will be recruited in the selection process.
- The candidates must be aware that the preference will be given to those who have acquired Ph.D/ MPhil Degree or qualified Junior Research Fellowship/National Eligibility Test.
- It is a given fact that the teachers who are recruited under this provision will have to acquire B.Ed Degree at their own expense within five years from the date of entry in service.
- Candidates who have pursued M.Ed in the concerned subject, recognized by any University in Kerala are exempted from B.Ed qualification criteria.

KPSC Application Process-Exemptions
- The candidates who have passed the State Level Eligibility Test (SLET) for the post of College Lecturers conducted by Government of Kerala are not considered for the State Eligibility Test for Higher Secondary School Teachers.
- The candidates who have cleared the National Eligibility Test/ Junior Research Fellowship shall not be considered for passing the State Eligibility Test.
- Applicants with Ph.D/ M.Phil/ M.Ed degree will be exempted from passing the State Eligibility Test, given that the M.Phil in the concerned subject is one awarded by any of the Universities in Kerala or recognized as equivalent by any of the Universities in Kerala.
- The applicants who have completed ten years of approved teaching service or experience in teaching field at the High School level in the General Education subordinate service will be exempted from passing the State Eligibility Test for Higher Secondary School Teachers.
- The candidates must note that relaxation of 5% marks in Post Graduation will be given to SC/ ST and Differently Abled Candidates as per G.O(Ms)No.288/15/Gl.Edn. Dated 13.11.2015.
- The candidates who claim equivalent qualifications instead of qualification mentioned in the Notification must submit the relevant Government Order to prove the equivalency at the time of verification.
- Only then, such qualification provided by the candidates will be treated as equivalent to the prescribed qualification.
- The candidate must be aware that any differences in original caste or community claimed in the application and that entered in SSLC book, the applicants must produce a Gazette notification stating the same as acclaimed.
- In addition to the above documents , candidates who belong to the Non Creamy Layer, must produce the respective Certificate or Community Certificate at the time of document verification.
