Kerala PSC ICDS Supervisor Job Profile 2024
Integrated Child Development Services
Integrated Child Development Services is a Centrally Sponsored Programme that will deliver the following six services to beneficiaries:
- Supplementary Nutrition (SNP)
- Health & Nutrition Check-Up
- Immunization
- Non-Formal Education for Children in Pre-School
- Health and Nutrition Education
- Referral services
These services are supplied by Anganwadi centres, which are primarily located in rural regions and are staffed with frontline workers.
Supplementary Nutrition Programme (SNP)
Children under the age of six as well as pregnant and nursing mothers are recognised in the community under this section of the ICDS, and they are given access to additional feeding and growth monitoring services. Supplementary nutrition is provided for 300 days to the beneficiaries. The programme attempts to close the calorie gap between the average and nationally recommended consumption of mothers and children in low-income categories by providing supplemental feeding.
Health & Nutrition Check-Up
This covers prenatal care for pregnant women, postnatal care for nursing moms, and healthcare for children under the age of six. Regular check-ups, treatment for diarrhoea, deworming, weight monitoring, immunisations, and administration of basic medications are among the services provided.
Immunization
Children receive immunisations against measles, TB, tetanus, pertussis, diphtheria, and polio, among other avoidable illnesses. Tetanus vaccinations are administered to expectant mothers in an effort to lower neonatal and maternal mortality.
Non-Formal Education for Children in Pre-School (PSE)
The ICDS scheme’s base can be considered to be this portion. All of the program’s services come together at the Anganwadi centres located in rural and urban slums as well as villages. With a focus on the essential elements for the best possible growth and development, this preschool education programme, which is primarily intended for children from disadvantaged backgrounds, aims to create and maintain a natural, happy, and stimulating environment. A major contribution to laying a solid basis for cumulative lifetime learning and development is the early learning component of the ICDS. In addition to providing the kid with the essential groundwork for primary school, it frees up older siblings—especially girls—from watching the younger members of the family, allowing them to go to school.
Health and Nutrition Education
Women between the ages of 15 and 45 are covered under this component to provide nutrition and health education. This is a component of the behaviour change communication, or BCC, approach. Building women’s capacities to meet their own requirements for nutrition, health, and development as well as those of their families and children is the long-term objective.
Referral Services
Any disorders or diseases that need emergency medical attention are sent to the hospital, primary health centre, etc. during routine health check-ups. In order to do early intervention, the Anganwadi worker is also trained to identify impairments in children.
