Kerala PSC Assistant Prison Officer Selection Process 2025
The Kerala Public Service Commission (KPSC) follows a structured, multi-stage selection process to recruit eligible candidates for the Assistant Prison Officer post under the Department of Prisons and Correctional Services.
Stage 1: Written / OMR / Online Examination
The first phase of selection is a Written (OMR-based or Online) Test conducted by the Kerala PSC.
- The exam evaluates the candidate’s general knowledge, current affairs, reasoning ability, and basic English/Malayalam language skills.
- The exact exam pattern, syllabus, and date are released separately through the official Kerala PSC website and candidate profiles.
- Only those who secure the required minimum qualifying marks will be shortlisted for the Physical Measurement Test (PMT).
Stage 2: Physical Measurement Test (PMT)
Candidates who pass the written exam must attend a Physical Measurement Test, where their height and chest expansion are verified.
- Those who do not meet the required measurements will be disqualified and will not proceed to the next stage.
- Candidates must also be free from visible physical deformities or disabilities such as flat feet, bow legs, varicose veins, or speech/hearing issues.
| Category | Height | Chest (on exhalation) | Expansion |
|---|---|---|---|
| General (Male) | 165 cm | 81.3 cm | 5 cm |
| SC/ST (Male) | 160 cm | 81.3 cm | 5 cm |
Stage 3: Physical Efficiency Test (PET)
Candidates who qualify in PMT must undergo the Physical Efficiency Test, proving their physical strength and endurance.
- The Physical Efficiency Test ensures that candidates are fit for the physically demanding duties of a prison officer.
- Accidents or injuries during the test will not entitle candidates to a retest, as per Kerala PSC guidelines.
They must achieve One Star Standard in any five out of eight events as specified below:

The candidate’s physical fitness and vision standards
| Type | Right Eye | Left Eye |
|---|---|---|
