Kerala PSC Excise Inspector Eligibility Criteria 2025: Age, Qualification

Appointment will be through Direct Recruitment.

Age Limit

• 19–31 years
• Eligible candidates must be born between 02.01.1994 and 01.01.2006 (both dates inclusive).
• Usual age relaxations apply for SC, ST, and OBC candidates as per general conditions

Educational Qualifications

• Degree Requirement: B.A, B.Sc, or B.Com from any recognized university or an equivalent qualification.
• For Ex-Servicemen: Minimum qualification is SSLC.
• Equivalent/higher qualifications recognized by the Government will also be accepted (proof required when called).

Kerala PSC Excise Inspector 2025 Physical Qualifications

A) Physical Standards

For Male Candidates:

• Height: 165 cm (160 cm for SC)
• Chest: 81 cm (normal), with minimum 5 cm expansion

For Female Candidates:

• Height: 152 cm (150 cm for SC)

Notes:

• No chest measurement relaxation for SC/ST.
• Weightage marks for NCC ‘A’ (2%), ‘B’ (3%), ‘C’ (5%) certificates.
• Extra marks for Students Police Cadet (SPC) certificate holders and meritorious sports persons as per government orders.

B) Visual Standards

• Distant vision: 6/6 in both eyes (Snellen)
• Near vision: 0.5 in both eyes (Snellen)
• Must have full field of vision, no colour blindness, squint, or other disqualifying eye/lid conditions.
• Must be free from physical defects such as knock-knee, flat feet, varicose veins, etc.
• Medical certificate (Appendix-I format) from a Government Civil Surgeon Grade-II or above is required when called.

Kerala PSC Excise Inspector 2025 Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

Candidates must qualify in at least 5 out of their respective 8 events.

Additional Notes

• Preference for Ex-Servicemen as per G.O. orders.
• Relaxations in PET for Ex-Servicemen as per Government rules.
• Physical measurements are checked before PET; failure to meet standards will lead to disqualification.
• No retest for injuries during PET.

Kerala PSC Excise Inspector Selection Process 2025

Candidates will be selected through a Written Test and further process conducted by the Kerala Public Service Commission. A ranked list of qualified candidates will be published, which will remain valid for one year from the date of finalisation.

1. Written Test – Objective-type examination to shortlist eligible candidates.
2. Physical Efficiency Test (PET) – Candidates must meet the prescribed physical standards and qualify in at least 5 out of 8 events.
3. Medical Examination – Verification of visual standards, physical fitness, and absence of disqualifying conditions through a certified medical report.
4. Document Verification – Checking of educational, age, caste, NCC/SPC certificates, and other eligibility documents.
5. Interview – Final assessment of the candidate’s suitability for the post.

The ranked list prepared after these stages will remain valid for one year from its finalisation. Selected candidates will undergo probation, training, and mandatory tests as per the recruitment rules.

Kerala PSC Excise Inspector 2025 Post-Selection Process

Probation

Appointed candidates will be on probation for two years on duty within a continuous period of three years from the date of joining.

Training

All direct recruits appointed as Excise Inspector (Trainee) must undergo at least 12 months of training as prescribed by the Commissioner of Excise. This training period will count towards probation and increments, as per G.O.(Ms) No.185/2011/Home dated 22.08.2011.

Mandatory Tests

During the probation period (if not already passed), candidates must clear:

• Account Test (Lower)
• Excise Tests Parts A & B
• District Office Manual / Manual of Office Procedure

Failure to pass these tests within the probation period may affect confirmation in the post.

The post of Excise Inspector in the Kerala Excise Department offers a pay scale of ₹43,400 – ₹91,200/- as per the 10th Pay Revision. Along with the basic pay, employees are entitled to Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), Travel Allowance (TA), and other benefits as per government norms.
