IFS, which stands for Indian Forest Services, is an All India level Civil Services Examination that is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). It is one of the three All India Services (besides IAS AND IPS). This exam helps in recruiting officers who help in the scientific management of forests.

Indian Forest Services allows serving both the State and Central Governments and are placed in positions relating to different state cadres and joint cadres. One needs to strictly follow the rules mentioned in the National Forest Policy. This policy aims to help in having a stable environment.

Another important thing that one preparing for this exam should know is that an IFS officer does not have to keep district administration and other judicial, financial powers in account. One who gets in the position of IFS Officer holds the top positions in the forestry department.

Well, before knowing about how you can prepare well for this exam, it is crucial to know what the pattern of the exam and syllabus is.

The Pattern of the UPSC IFS Exam

The Indian Forest Services Examination has three stages namely, preliminary (prelims), main examination and personality test or interview.

This is how aspirants are selected for each phase – aspirants need to first fill up an online application form of CSE, that is, Civil Services Examination. Those who clear the preliminary examination and meets all the eligibility criteria mentioned for the IFS Exam are allowed for the Main Examination. Next, one needs to go for an interview round and the marks obtained in the Main Examination and the personality test is taken into account for the final selection.
