CLAT Exam Pattern 2022
CLAT Exam Pattern 2022 for UG and PG programs are completely different. It’s an online based test, where test takers will be allotted 2 hours to attempt 200 objective type questions. Detailed CLAT exam patterns for both Undergraduate and Postgraduate are mentioned below.
Exam Pattern for Undergraduates
- The CLAT exam for undergraduates will be held in offline mode.
- It will be on 19th June 2022 from 2 PM to 4 PM. The exam will be for a maximum of 150 marks and the duration of the exam will be two hours.
- The question paper will consist of 150 multiple choice questions of one mark each.
- There will be a negative marking of .25 mark for each wrong answer.

CLAT 2022 Undergraduate Syllabus
The CLAT syllabus 2022 includes topics from five subjects namely English language, Current Affairs including General Knowledge, Quantitative Techniques, Legal Aptitude and Logical Reasoning.
English Language
This section will consist of passages from contemporary or historically significant fiction and non-fiction writing of about 450 words each. This questions asked based on the passage will be to test the candidates’ ability to
- Read and comprehend the main point discussed in the passage, as well as any arguments and viewpoints discussed or set out in the passage;
- Draw inferences and conclusions based on the passage;
- Summarize the passage;
- Compare and contrast the different arguments or viewpoints set out in the passage; and
- Understand the meaning of various words and phrases used in the passage.
Current Affairs Including General Knowledge
This section will consist of passages from news, journalistic sources and other non-fiction writing of about 450 words each. This questions asked based on the passage will test the candidates’ awareness of various aspects of current affairs and general knowledge, including
- Contemporary events of significance from India and the world
- Arts and culture
- International affairs
- Historical events of continuing significance.
Legal Reasoning
This section will consist of passages related to fact situations or scenarios involving legal matters, public policy questions or moral philosophical enquiries. Prior knowledge of law is not required. The passage requires candidates to
- Identify and infer the rules and principles set out in the passage
- Apply such rules and principles to various fact situations
- Understand how changes to the rules or principles may alter their application to various fact situations.
Logical Reasoning
This section will consist of short passages of about 300 words each. This requires candidates to
- Recognize an argument, its premises and conclusions
- Read and identify the arguments set out in the passage
- Critically analyze patterns of reasoning, and assess how conclusions may depend on particular premises or evidence;
- Infer what follows from the passage and apply these inferences to new situations
- Draw relationships and analogies, identify contradictions and equivalence, and assess the effectiveness of arguments.
Quantitative Techniques
This section will include short sets of facts or propositions, graphs, or other textual, pictorial or diagrammatic representations of numerical information, followed by a series of questions. They will require the candidates to
- Derive, infer, and manipulate numerical information set out in such passages, graphs, or other representations; and
- Apply various 10th standard mathematical operations on such information, including from areas such as ratios and proportions, basic algebra, mensuration and statistical estimation.

CLAT 2022 Postgraduate Syllabus
The exam will contain extracts from primary legal materials such as important court decisions in various fields of law, statutes or regulations. Each passage will be followed by a series of questions that will test the following abilities of the candidates:
- Ability to read and comprehend the issues discussed in the passage, as well as any arguments and viewpoints discussed or set out in the passage
- Awareness of the issues discussed in the passage, as well as of legal issues and facts related to and arising out of the passage and the judgment or statute from which it is extracted
- Summarize the passage
- Ability to apply knowledge of the fields of law discussed in the passage.
