Before You Start: Documents & Files to Keep Ready for RRB JE Apply Online 2026

Since the entire process is time-bound and cannot be paused indefinitely, keep the following ready before you begin:

• Active personal mobile number and email ID (cannot be changed later)
• Aadhaar number / DigiLocker credentials for identity verification
• Scanned signature in the prescribed format (details below)
• SC/ST certificate (PDF, under 400 KB) — only if applying for free train travel facility
• Educational qualification and personal detail information (name, father’s/mother’s name, DOB exactly as per SSC/SSLC/Matriculation certificate)

RRB JE Online Application 2026 Steps – How to Apply

Follow the steps below to complete the RRB JE online application 2026 correctly and submit the application form without errors.

Step 1: Create an Account with RRB

Before filling the CEN 04/2026 application, every candidate must first Create an Account on the official RRB application portal.

• If you already created an account for a previous RRB CEN, use the same login credentials — do not create a new one.
• If applying for the first time, use the “Create an Account” link on the official RRB website.
• A valid personal mobile number and email ID are mandatory to receive OTPs during account creation.

Details filled in the “Create an Account” form — including your mobile number and email ID — cannot be modified at any stage, even during the paid modification window. Double-check everything before submitting this step.

Identity Authentication (Highly Recommended)

• Authenticate your identity using DigiLocker or Aadhaar at the account creation stage itself.
• This ensures smoother and faster verification at every subsequent stage of recruitment.
• Candidates who skip this and instead verify using an alternate photo ID will face significantly stricter scrutiny at every stage of the recruitment process, including CBT and Document Verification.

Step 2: Fill the Online Application Form (CEN 04/2026)

Once your account is created, log in and proceed to fill the application for CEN No. 04/2026.

1. Read all instructions in the detailed CEN carefully before you start.
2. Enter personal details, educational qualifications, category/community details, and communication address accurately.
3. Choose your medium of examination — CBT questions are available in English, Hindi, and 13 regional Indian languages (Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Konkani, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu). Questions will display in English + your chosen language.
4. Select only ONE RRB for your application. This choice is final and cannot be changed, even during modification.
5. Provide your Order of Zone Preference — list the Railway Zones and posts/categories you are interested in and eligible for, in order of preference, under your chosen RRB. If no option is given for a post/category, it will be treated as your unwillingness for that post.

Critical Warning: Submitting applications to more than one RRB, or multiple applications to the same RRB, will lead to rejection of al applications and debarment from future RRB/RRC examinations for life.

Step 3: Live Photo Capture

Unlike older recruitment processes, CEN 04/2026 does NOT require you to upload a pre-existing photograph. Instead, a live photograph is captured directly during the application process.

How it works:

• The application module captures your live photo via webcam or your mobile’s front camera.
• Wear non-white, preferably dark-coloured clothing to maintain contrast with the background.

Instructions to follow carefully:

• Position the camera at eye level.
• Look straight at the camera with a neutral expression.
• Ensure your entire face is visible and centered within the frame.
• Face should be neither too close nor too far — no part of your head should fall outside the frame.
• Do NOT wear a cap, mask, or glasses/spectacles.
• You may preview and retake the photo until you’re satisfied, before final submission.

Never attempt to photograph a printed or pre-existing photo — such applications will be summarily rejected. If the live photo doesn’t match validation checks, you’ll need to download and upload Annexure VII, duly signed by a Gazetted Officer, as proof of identity.

Step 4: Upload Your Signature

You must upload a scanned copy of your own handwritten signature. This is one of the most common reasons for application rejection, so follow the specifications exactly.

• Signature of someone other than the applicant
• Non-white background
• Non-black ink
• Signature in BLOCK/CAPITAL letters instead of running handwriting
• Poor resolution or unclear image
• Incomplete/partially visible signature
• Blank signature or thumb impression instead of signature

Your signature must remain consistent across all stages — application, CBT, Document Verification, Medical Examination, and appointment.

Exception: Certain PwBD candidates who cannot sign due to their disability may upload a fingerprint image instead (left thumb, right thumb, or any other finger, in that preferential order).

Step 5: Upload SC/ST Certificate (If Applicable)

If you belong to the SC/ST category and wish to avail the free railway travel pass for CBT/DV/Medical Examination stages, upload a scanned copy of your valid SC/ST certificate:

• Format: PDF only
• File size: Less than 400 KB
• Must be legible, clear, and the latest valid certificate as on the closing date

Step 6: Opt for Scribe Assistance (PwBD Candidates Only)

If you’re a PwBD candidate eligible for scribe assistance (Blindness, Locomotor Disability – Both Arms Affected, Cerebral Palsy, or other certified conditions), you must opt for a scribe within your online application itself.

• You are responsible for arranging your own scribe, at your own cost.
• Your scribe must be registered on rrbapply.gov.in and hold a valid One-Time Registration (OTR) Number.
• During the 5-day window immediately after the modification window closes (26.09.2026 – 30.09.2026), log back in and enter your scribe’s OTR number. An OTP will be sent to the scribe’s registered mobile number, which you must enter to confirm the scribe.

Step 7: Pay the Examination Fee

After submitting your application, you’ll be directed to pay the applicable fee online.

Modes accepted: Internet banking, debit/credit cards, or UPI — online only. There is no offline fee payment option.

⚠️ Important:

• Last date for fee payment is 15.09.2026.
• Be cautious of fake/unauthorized payment websites — always pay through the official RRB portal.
• Your application is accepted only after fee payment is confirmed. You’ll receive confirmation via email and SMS.
• Applications without the prescribed fee will be summarily rejected, with no refund and no scope for representation.

Step 8: Refund of Examination Fee

• Refunds are credited only to a bank account seeded with your Aadhaar number.
• During the application process, you must validate your Aadhaar number; the linked bank account will be shown for confirmation.
• If no Aadhaar-seeded bank account is found, you’ll be redirected to the NPCI portal to complete linking.
• Candidates without their own bank account may use a family member’s Aadhaar-seeded account.
• Only candidates who appear for CBT-I are eligible for a fee refund. No refund is given for incomplete, non-submitted, or rejected applications.

Modification of Submitted RRB Junior Engineer Online Application 2026

Made a mistake after submission? RRB allows corrections during a dedicated modification window.

You can modify your application any number of times during this window, paying the fee each time. After 25.09.2026, no representation for modification will be entertained under any circumstances.

• Once your application and fee payment are confirmed, you’ll get a Registration Number — note this down carefully for all future correspondence.
• RRB will not entertain any request for change of mobile number or email address at any stage of recruitment.
• Keep checking the official RRB website regularly for CBT city intimation (~10 days before exam), e-call letter download (~4 days before exam), and further updates — communication may also come via SMS/email, but delivery isn’t guaranteed.
• E-call letters, along with scribe call letters (if applicable), must be downloaded only from official RRB websites.
