Kerala government recruits mechanical engineers for various departments through Kerala Public Service Commission exams. These exams may be written test, practical test, physical efficiency test and interviews. Candidates are assessed based on their performance and are appointed strictly based on their merit. The assistant engineer exams are conducted every year to recruit suitable candidates in managerial and technical posts.
Kerala Public Service Commission has released a circular ( CATEGORY NO: 551/2021 ) dated 30.11.2021 inviting applications for Assistant Engineer Mechanical in the irrigation department. Aspiring candidates who are applying for the first time should register as per the One Time Registration through the official website of Kerala Public Service Commission. Candidates who have already registered can apply through their profile. The last date for submitting application is 5th January, 2022.

1. B.Sc. Degree in Mechanical Engineering of the Kerala University or its equivalent.
2. B.E. Degree in Mechanical Engineering of the Madras University or its equivalent.
3. Associate Membership Diploma of the Institution of Engineers (India) in Mechanical
Engineering or any other qualifications recognized as equivalent to a degree.
4. Pass in Section A & B of the Associate Membership Examination of the Institution of
Engineers (India) in Mechanical Engineering.
5. Any other qualification recognized by the Government as equivalent to B.Sc. Degree in
Mechanical Engineering of the Kerala University.
Mechanical engineers are recruited by the Kerala government in the following departments:
- Harbor engineering
- Kerala Agro Machinery
- Medical education
- Motor vehicle
- Kerala water authority
- State farming cooperation
- Technical education
- Assistant Director in departments like boilers and factories
- Legal metrology department
- Mining and geology
- Lecturer in polytechnic colleges
Diploma holders can also recruited by the Kerala government in the following departments:
- Motor vehicle inspector
- Machine operator

The salary will depend upon the profile of the job. The average salary will be in the range of Rs 40k – 100k which is much above the national average. Assistant engineers under Kerala government are paid as per the 7th pay commission. Apart from the basic salary, assistant engineers enjoy several perks.

Candidates aged between 20 and 40 ( that is those who are born between
02.01.1981 and 01.01.2001, both dates included) are eligible to apply for the post with
usual relaxation to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and other Backward Communities.
