Global Wind Day Celebrated on June 15th Every Year

Global wind day is observed on 15th June every year. The global wind day is observed by all the UN member states. The action plan associated with the global wind day is celebrated and coordinated by the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) and Wind Europe (EWEA). Sunday is dedicated to exploring and exchanging the possibilities of maximum energy production by the natural resource wind. There will be events of celebration and information providing awareness sessions of the exploration of wind will be conducted all over the world. The global wind day initiates the wind energy associations and wind energy production companies to hold and conduct many events in collaboration with EWEA and GWEC. The first global wind day was observed on 15 June 1967. From those times itself it is celebrated annually to give the opportunity of maximum exploration of wind energy.

Wind Europe and Global Wind Energy Council

Wind Europe was formerly known as the Europe Wind Energy Association (EWEA). Now the name has been changed to Wind Europe. Even though nowadays both of the terms are used, the both terms represent the same institution. Wind Europe is an association based in Brussels which is the capital of Belgium. Brussels works as the headquarters of the institution. The membership and strength of the association is very big; it contains 600 members spread over 50 different countries including manufacturers, leading companies, research institutions, wind energy associations etc. They organize various programs and events annually in regard with wind energy production and conservation and supply. One of the events it conducts in collaboration with GWEN is the Global Wind Day observed annually on 15th June.

Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) is a platform for representation for the entire wind energy sector in the world at an international level. It was established and came into function in the year of 2005. The mission of the GWEC is to establish wind energy as one of the world’s leading energy sources by reducing the environmental impact and hazardous effects of other energy sources. After the commencement of the council the energy production of the entire world has been increased by 25% and the wind energy capacity has been increased up to 74GW.
