Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award in Sports and Games, is considered to be the highest award category for sports and Dronacharya Awards is the awards to honour sports coaches for their consistent effort to mould meritorious sports personalities in Republic of India. First recipient of these prestigious awards is Shri Viswanathan Anand, Chess Grand Master in the year 1991-1992 and Bhalachandra Bhaskar Bhagwat(Wrestling), Om Prakash Bhardwaj(Boxing), and O. M. Nambiar(Athletics),were honoured in 1985 respectively. Khel Ratna is given to the personality in the field of sports who have done most outstanding performance over a period of 04 years at various international level events like Olympics, Asian games, Common wealth Games, Paralympic games, Parasports, World Cups or Championships etc.
