Make in India Program – Overview
Make in India program is an initiative of the central government to promote investment (FDI), Foster innovation, enhance skill development, protect intellectual property rights and build best in class manufacture. In short, we can say it is an initiative aimed at transforming India into a global superpower. The initiative was officially announced on 25th September 2014. The initiative is led by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) which is entrusted with the duty of promoting the foreign direct investment and monitoring ease of doing business. The Make in India program has four major pillars namely:
- New Processes
- New Infrastructure
- New Sectors
- New Mindset.
Make in India Program – New Processes
The first pillar new process simply implies the ease of doing business. If India wants to get new processes the ease of doing business should be increased over here. The ease of doing business means how easy a start-up or business or any foreign direct investment can be initiated or drawn in the country. The major aim or objective in this first pillar is to de-licence and de regulate the industrial sector for increasing the ease of doing business.
The ease of doing business has been identified by the EDOB index which is introduced by the World Bank Group. According to the world bank group EDOB index of India in 2020 is 63rd (Lower the numerical value higher the ease of doing business). Business Reform Action Plan for the year 2020. It consists of 301 reform points across 15 areas. The Atmanirbhar Abhiyaan (Self Reliant India) which is a comprehensive economic package announced by the finance ministry in accordance with the covid 19 pandemic crisis has been enabling the ease of doing business by infusing liquidity into the market. The five pillars of the Atmanirbhar Abhiyaan such as economy, infrastructure, system, demography and demand also increase the ease of doing business as part of the Mae in India program.
Make in India Program – New Infrastructure
Infrastructure means the physical as well as the structural requirements to attract investments. It includes creation of new industrial corridors, smart cities and other infrastructure facilities. The government will collaborate with the private sector in order to develop the infrastructure for the Make in India program. National Infrastructure Pipeline
National infrastructure Pipeline is an initiative launched by the union ministry on behalf of the new infrastructure pillar in the Make in India program the main objective of the program is to build domestic capacity and enhance its implementation by private participation. Infrastructure projects under NIP will receive an equal share of capital expenditure from the part of centre and state each of 39% contributing to a total of 78% and the rest 22% will be upon the private players. Roads, Urban and Housing, Railways, Power (Conventional and Unconventional) and Irrigation are the main five focus areas of the NIP initiative.

National Broadband Mission
National Broadband Mission or the Rasthriyaa Bradband Abhiyaan is the project aimed to execute the Broadband for all which was an objective of the National Digital Communication Policy 2018. It operates by creating a digital fibre map of the country which shall include the digital communication network (Optical Fibre Cables) and infrastructure (Towers) across the country. To develop Broadband Index as part of the National Broadband Mission to evaluate the digital connectivity in state and union tertiary. This program will also account for the infrastructure facilities of the Make in India Program.

The third pillar associated with the make in India program is the introduction of the new sector. This is achieved by way of collaborating different industrial corridors.
