Railway Recruitment Board(RRB) will invite the application for the Non-Technical Popular Categories (NTPC) shortly. The Non-Technical Popular Categories (NTPC) positions include Junior Clerk cum Typist, Accounts Clerk cum Typist, Junior Time Keeper, Trains Clerk, Commercial cum Ticket Clerk, Traffic Assistant, Goods Guard, Senior Commercial cum Ticket Clerk, Senior Clerk cum Typist, Junior Account Assistant cum Typist, Senior Time Keeper, Commercial Apprentice and Station Master in various Railway Boards. Most of these jobs are desk jobs only. Some of these RRB NTPC job demand working in different shifts while some others have only the usual office working time.

RRB NTPC Exam Pattern
The RRB NTPC 2024 selection process includes two stages of written examination followed by the skill tests, document verification, and medical test.
Phase I: Preliminary Computer Based Test
100 questions, 90 minutes

There shall be a Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT) for the candidates who have opted for the Traffic Assistant and Station Master posts. For the Typists(Junior & Senior), Time Keeper and the Accountant posts there shall be a skill test before the DV.
Phase III: Document Verification
Based on the candidate’s performances in the stage -02 examinations and CBAT & Skill test( wherever applicable) they will call for the document verification process.

RRB NTPC Job Profile
- Junior Clerk cum Typist
The Junior Clerks are supposed to assist the senior clerks to do the data entry works. This profile does not have shifts, and suitable for those who wish 10 to 5 jobs.
- Accounts Clerk cum Typist
Accounts Clerk are responsible for keeping accounts. They should do the internal check of the transactions like receipts and expenditures, claim settlements, etc. Whenever a new tender is required they should advertise for the tenders for various railway departments.
- Junior Time Keeper
The Junior Time Keeper will assist the movement of trains by keeping the record of time. They will assist the Senior Time Keeper in maintaining records of arrival/ departure of the trains. This position involves shift work.
- Trains Clerk
The Train Clerk is responsible to maintain the general records related to trains, their conditions, and they maintain the track the number of coaches in various trains.
- Commercial cum Ticket Clerk
Commercial Ticket Clerk is responsible for issuing tickets through CRS ( Commission of Railway Safety ) and UTS ( Unreserved Ticketing System), and for the luggage tickets.
- Traffic Assistant
Traffic Assistants are trained as Traffic in charge or Signal in charge. They are supposed to work in various shifts.

- Goods Guard
Goods Guard job profile includes checks for loose ends in the train. They should ensure brake continuity with the Loco Pilot, and the train has sufficient brake power and signing the Brake Power certificate(BPC). They should maintain the Combined Train Reports, Late Arrival Reports, etc.
- Senior Commercial cum Ticket Clerk
Senior Commercial Clerks works in the Ticket Booking Offices. They are responsible for commercial checking and ticket issuing for passengers and luggage, and goods.
- Senior Clerk cum Typist
Senior CLerks usually do the supervises the Junior Clerks and their job and involves all sorts of transactions, challan making, record keeping and all sort of data entry work.
- Junior Account Assistant cum Typist
Junior Accounts tracks the financial records of various railway departments. They have to keep track of transactions, expenditures, claim settlements, etc in the railways.
- Senior Time Keeper
They should keep records of time regarding the movements of trains. The arrival time, departure time, lagging period, etc should be recorded and maintained for future use. They have to work on various shifts.
- Commercial Apprentice
Commercial apprentices are the multi-skilled supervisors in various commercial branches. They can be posted either as Commercial Supervisor, Goods Supervisor or as the Commercial Inspector or Parcel Supervisor. They will have 100 days of training in various sub-departments.
- Station Master
Station Masters are the in-charge of that particular railway station. They have to supervise all activities at the railway station. Station Masters are responsible to ensure smooth and timely arrival and departure of trains, and passenger safety.
