RRB NTPC Selection Process 2026: CBT 1, CBT 2, Document Verification & Medical (No Typing Test)

The RRB NTPC Selection Process 2026 includes two stages of Computer-Based Tests (CBT 1 and CBT 2), followed by Document Verification and Medical Examination. The selection process varies according to the post applied for. RRB NTPC 2026 Important Details

RRB NTPC 2026 Selection Process

Online applications for RRB NTPC 2026 are submitted through the official RRB websites. Under Graduate Level and undergraduate level, candidates are selected based on their performance in the prescribed examinations, followed by document verification and a medical examination.

The selection process for RRB NTPC includes:

• 1st Stage Computer-Based Test (CBT 1)
• 2nd Stage Computer-Based Test (CBT 2)
• Document Verification (DV)
• Medical Examination

The Computer-Based Aptitude Test (CBAT) and Computer-Based Typing Skill Test (CBTST) are not part of this recruitment cycle.

1st Stage Computer-Based Test (CBT 1)

CBT 1 is the first stage of the RRB NTPC recruitment process. The examination consists of objective-type multiple-choice questions from Mathematics, General Intelligence and Reasoning, and General Awareness.

The exam pattern is given below:

• Exam Duration: 90 minutes
• Eligible PwBD candidates using a scribe: 120 minutes
• Negative Marking: 1/3 mark for each incorrect answer

CBT 1 is a screening examination. Candidates are shortlisted for CBT 2 based on their normalized scores and merit. They must also satisfy the prescribed qualifying criteria.

2nd Stage Computer-Based Test (CBT 2)

Candidates shortlisted from CBT 1 must appear for CBT 2. The examination covers the same broad subjects as CBT 1, but includes more questions.

The exam pattern is as follows:

• Exam Duration: 120 minutes
• Negative Marking: 1/3 mark for each incorrect answer

Candidates are shortlisted for the next stage according to their CBT 2 performance and the applicable recruitment rules.

Computer-Based Aptitude Test (CBAT) – Not included in current cycle

The Computer-Based Aptitude Test is not included in the selection process under Graduate Level CEN 06/2026. The Station Master and Traffic Assistant posts are not part of this notification.

Computer-Based Typing Skill Test (CBTST)- Not included in current cycle

The Computer-Based Typing Skill Test has been dispensed with under Graduate Level CEN 06/2026, including for the Junior Accounts Assistant cum Typist and Senior Clerk cum Typist posts. Candidates should refer to the detailed notification for the applicable selection requirements.

Document Verification (DV)

Candidates shortlisted based on their CBT performance are called for Document Verification. They must provide the required original certificates to establish their eligibility.

These may include educational certificates, proof of date of birth, category certificates where applicable, and other documents specified in the notification. Candidates must follow the instructions issued by their respective RRBs.

• What to bring:
  • All your original certificates and two sets of self-attested photocopies
  • Before your DV date, upload your photo and signature at oirms-ir.gov.in/rrbdv
• What happens if documents are missing: No extra time is given. If you are absent or don’t produce your originals, your candidature is cancelled.

Graduate Level Medical Standard

Candidates who qualify through the required selection stages and document verification must pass the medical examination conducted by the Railway Administration. The medical standards depend on the post.

The Graduate Level CEN 06/2026 notification specifies the following medical categories for the notified posts:

Candidates must meet the medical fitness and visual acuity requirements prescribed for their respective posts.

Undergraduate Level Medical Standard

Trains Clerk needs A3, Commercial cum Ticket Clerk needs B2, and both typist posts need C2. If you have had LASIK or any other eye surgery to correct your vision, you are not eligible for Trains Clerk.

Final merit and allotment

• Tie-breaker: If two candidates have equal marks, the older candidate ranks higher. If they are the same age, they are ranked alphabetically by first name.
• Allotment: You are given a post and zone based on your merit, your preferences, your medical fitness and the vacancies available.
• Once you are empanelled, you give up your claim to any other post at the same pay level.
• Who gives the job: The RRB only recommends names. The offer of appointment comes from the zonal railway, after checking your character and antecedents.

  • Analogies, number and letter series, coding-decoding
  • Syllogism, Venn diagrams, puzzles, data sufficiency
  • Statement–conclusion and statement–course of action
  • Decision making, maps, interpreting graphs
• General Awareness:
  • Current affairs, sports, Indian art, culture and literature
  • History and the freedom struggle, geography of India and the world
  • Polity, economy, general science (up to CBSE 10th level)
  • Basics of computers, space and nuclear programmes, environment
