Aren’t you curious to know about the highest Indian Railway bridge? Chenab Rail Bridge is an Indian railway steel and concrete arch bridge which is known for its highest and the stability upon which it has been built. The Chenab Rail bridge is situated between Bakkal and Kauri in the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir, India. The height of the bridge can leave you awestruck. Once constructed, the bridge will traverse the Chenab River at an altitude of 359 m (1,178 ft) beyond the river.
The estimated height of the railway bridge can surpass the height of the taller Paris’ Eiffel Tower by 35 meters. The Chenab Railway bridge was completed for ₹1,486 crores. The Chenab bridge strives to increase connectivity to the Kashmir Valley. As per the declaration of the Ministry of Railways, the Chenab railway bridge will turn itself into the biggest civil-engineering challenge confronted by any railway undertaking in India in contemporary chronology.
Indian railways have attained a bunch of crossroads recently, but the construction of the world’s highest single-arch railway bridge over the Chenab River hits differently. The culmination of the bridge is planned and the construction is on the verge of the final evaluation. The bridge is being constructed at an altitude of 359 meters. The most interesting fact about the bridge is that it can feature a Golden Joint that will link the two flanks of the bridge.
The golden joint will club the two segments on the bridge and the bridge overarch patio with the service of High Strength Friction Grip (HSFG) bolts, which assemble the crucial ‘golden joint’ on the engineering phenomenon. The Chenab Railway bridge is capable of amazing and evoking curiosity in many.

Chenab Railway Bridge – Height and Length
The bridge has a complete height of 473.25 meters, while the measurement of the viaduct is 120 meters and the major barricade is 94.25 meters. the official statement about the bridge is already out and states that the bridge is reinforced by 96 cables. The weight of the Chenab Bridge ranges according to the weight of the metals used for the construction of the bridge.
The comprehensive poundage of the arc is 10,619 MT. Chenab Bridge has been designed and given birth by engineering geniuses, namely Viaduct & Foundations-M/s WSP (Finland); Arch: M/s Leonhart, Andra and Partners (Germany), and Foundation Protection: Indian Institute of Science Bangalore. Building of the bridge entangled imitation of 10 lakh cum Earthwork, 28,660 MT steel, 26 Km motorable roads, and 66,000 cum concrete. The structural detailing is done by ‘Tekla’ software. The Chenab Rail Bridge is a sword and concrete bow ground between Bakkal and Kauri in the Reasi quarter of Jammu and Kashmir, India. The ground traverses the Chenab River at an altitude of 359 m(,178 ft) above the river Chenab, creating it the world’s loftiest rail foundation. In November 2017, the bottom supports were announced and conducted qualifying for the liftoff of the structure of the main bow.
The ground was completely completed and was inaugurated in August 2022. The Chenab Rail Bridge’s bow was concluded and the comprehensive ground was ended in August 2022. The features of the Chenab bridge includes sundeck height( height above swash bed) 359 m(,178 ft),( height above swash face) 322 m(,056 ft); Bridge length,315 m(,314 ft), including the 650 m(,130 ft) long viaduct on the northern side; Arch span 467 m(,532 ft)( 11); Arch length 480 m(,570 ft).

All these features make the Chenab Rail Bridge the world’s loftiest railway bridge at the same time makes it the only bridge with the longest span in the 5 ft 6 in(,676 mm) expansive hand route web. The Northern Railway has assumed the megaproject of building an unexplored road streak across the Indian union quarters of Jammu and Kashmir between the metropolia of Udhampur near Jammu and Baramulla on the northwestern boundary of the Kashmir Valley. This technique was announced as a general strategy in 2002.
Chenab Railway Bridge – Unique Features
The bridge is developed to resist high wind acceleration up to 266 Km/hour. The Chenab bridge is created for detonation gear in consultation with DRDO for the foremost duration in India. It will stay functioning at a limited pace of 30 Km/hour consistent after the deduction of one pier/trestle. The testing welds were first done with the help of a Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing machine. The welding of the different parts of the structure was done and the approximation of 584Km welding was accomplished to cohere the distinct domains of the structure. It can cover the stretch between Jammu Tawi to New Delhi.
Another interesting factor about the Chenab bridge is the elevation of the rope crane’s tower at Srinagar End is 127 meters, which is considerably more elevated than Qutub Minar’s of 72 meters.
The tremendous challenge fibs in a considerable numeral of coverts( counting 63 km in height and isles(7.5 km) to be implemented in predominantly tumultuous and mountainous topography, with the insubstantial Himalayan geology. The considerable light territory is regarded to be the intersection of the profound couloir of the Chenab River, near Salal Hydro Power Dam by the Chenab Bridge.

Chenab Railway Bride – Origin
The Chenab Rail Bridge was first planned to be achieved in December 2009. It is said that the configuration was suspended due to apprehensiveness over the foundation’s resilience and protection in September 2008. The configuration and building were granted to Afcons structure, a portion of the Shapoorji Pallonji Group, the third-largest building company in India, with the assistance of IISc Bangalore. Major building statements were accepted by Konkan Railway Corporation.
The Defence Research and Development Organisation( DRDO) supported the invention of the foundation. The building technique for the bridge is a strategy in itself. Two pylons( about 130 m and 100 m high) were pitched on both flanks of the swash, and two supplemental tone-drove line cranes were employed to carry momentary supplemental twines across these pylons. The tethers were manipulated to sustain the incompletely completed arch passageway. After bow culmination, the trusses will be counted along with it the beam will be completed as a perpendicular sliding type scaffold.
