Human beings have to wait until the end of time for their bodily resurrection, but Mary’s body was able to go straight to heaven because her soul hadn’t been tainted by original trespass.
Assumption Day commemorates the belief that when Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ, died, her body was “assumed” into heaven to be reunited with her soul, instead of going through the natural process of physical decay upon death. The day is celebrated on or around August 15 in many countries, especially in different parts of Europe and South America.
In 1950, Pope Pius XII declared the Assumption of Mary official dogma of the Roman Catholic Church. The Catholic Church teaches that the 5Virgin Mary “having completed the course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory.”

Assumption Of Day Of Virgin Mary 2022- History
The entrance of Virgin Mary into heaven by God after her death is observed in Christian faith on the Feast of Assumption on August 15.
During the third and early fourth centuries AD, apocryphal (widely believed but not official) writings mused upon Assumption of Mary, none of them attaining the status of dogmatic belief. Then, in the fourth century, the bishop Epiphanius of Salamis wrote about the varying philosophies concerning the nature of the Virgin Mary’s passing on, identifying three factions of belief but remaining unable to establish a broad consensus. He concluded, “No one knows her end.” By the eighth century, an apocryphal text called the “Transitus Mariae” had become so generally accepted that John of Damascus was able to establish its storyline with the church as the official story from that point forward.
During the eighth century in the West, Pope Sergius I motivated the celebrations for the Feast of the Assumption, and the feast is confirmed officially by Pope Leo IV.
The holiday has not only survived but also has thrived to this day, despite the church never having pointed to any concrete historical or explicit Biblical evidence.
