The Reserve Bank of India recruits candidates to apply for the Assistant post by conducting examinations. Candidates will have to meet the requirements as per the eligibility criteria set by the conducting authority – the RBI. The two posts for which the RBI conducts exams are: i) RBI Assistant ii) RBI Grade B Officer

For both the posts, the eligibility criteria are different. Candidates need to go through the eligibility criteria before applying for the RBI Assistant examination. The following article provides details on the age limit, nationality, educational qualifications, etc.

RBI Assistant: Eligibility Criteria

To meet the RBI Assistant eligibility criteria requirements, a candidate must fulfill the below:

i) Age Limit

ii) Educational Qualification

iii) Local/Official state language Proficiency

The following details cover each requirement for the eligibility criterion.

Age Limit

Candidates must be of the age between 20 and 28 years (as of 1/12/2019) for applying for the post of RBI Assistant 2022 examination. Hence, candidates born before December 2, 1991, and after December 1, 1999, will not be able to apply for the exam. Candidates belonging to specific categories will be given upper age relaxation. The upper age relaxation is mentioned below for candidates of certain categories.

Category Upper Age Limit
SC/ST 33 years (Relaxation – 5 years)
OBC 31 years (Relaxation – 3 years)
Persons with Disabilities 38 years (relaxation – 10 years for Gen/EWS)

41 years (relaxation – 13 years for OBC)

43 years (relaxation – 15 years for SC/ST)

Widows/divorced women/ women judicially separated (who are not re-married) 38 years (Relaxation – 10 years)
Ex-Servicemen Till the service extent rendered by them in Armed Forces with an additional period of 3 years subject to a maximum of 50 years
Candidates with work experience in Reserve Bank of India Experience to an extent of the number of years, subject to a maximum of 3 years
Candidates domiciled in the state of Jammu and Kashmir (during the period from 1st January 1980 to 31st December 1989) 33 years (Relaxation – 5 years)

At the time of the interview, candidates must present their caste certificate for verification.

Educational Qualifications

Candidates applying for the RBI Assistant Exam must possess the below educational qualification (as of 1/12/2019):

i) Candidates with a Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline with a minimum of 50% marks. Pass marks would be sufficient for candidates belonging to SC/ST/PWD category to apply for the exam.

ii) Ex-Servicemen category person with either graduation from any Government recognized University or should be a matriculation pass out or qualify an examination of the Armed Forces and 15 years of defense service rendered.

iii) If a candidate applies from a particular state/region,  the candidate must know how to speak, read and write the regional language.

RBI Assistant 2022: Selection Process

The selection process for the RBI Assistant position includes three stages:

i) Preliminary Examination

ii) Mains Examination

iii) Language Proficiency Test

  • The preliminary examination consists of three sections namely Reasoning Ability, Quantitative Aptitude, and English Language.
  • The main examination consists of five sections namely English Language, Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning Ability, Computer Knowledge, and General Awareness.
  • Candidates will have to qualify for the language proficiency test once he/she is shortlisted after the main examination. Given below are the states to which candidates can apply for the language proficiency test:

The candidate will be provisionally recruited for the RBI Assistant position once the candidate qualifies for the written examinations, passing the Language Proficiency Test, medical test, and verification of documents. The number of attempts and Nationality are the two other important criteria. To apply for the RBI Assistant Exam, there is no particular number of attempts and the candidate will have to be an Indian citizen. Candidates meeting the above-mentioned requirements are eligible to apply for the RBI Assistant Examination.
