IOB Local Bank Officer Recruitment Selection Process
The selection process for the Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) Local Bank Officer (LBO) recruitment generally begins with the shortlisting of applications.
Online Examination
The first stage of the selection process is an online computer-based exam. It includes four sections: Reasoning & Computer Aptitude, General/Economy/Banking Awareness, Data Analysis & Interpretation, and English Language. There are 140 questions in total, carrying a maximum of 200 marks, and the entire test lasts 3 hours with specific time limits for each section. To qualify, candidates must meet the minimum cut-off scores—30% for those in reserved categories and 35% for unreserved categories—in every section. Additionally, a penalty of 0.25 marks is applied for each incorrect answer. Only those who pass this exam will proceed to the Language Proficiency Test.
Language Proficiency Test (LPT)
Candidates who pass the online examination must then take the Language Proficiency Test (LPT), where they’ll need to demonstrate their ability to read, write, and speak the local language of the state they’ve applied to. This stage is vital—failing the LPT will result in disqualification from the recruitment process. However, those who studied the local language in either Class 10 or 12 and can provide a valid certificate or marksheet as proof are exempt from taking the LPT.
Personal Interview
Candidates who successfully pass both the Online Examination and the Language Proficiency Test (LPT) will be called for the Personal Interview. This round is designed to evaluate the candidate’s communication skills, confidence, and understanding of relevant subjects. The minimum marks required to qualify in the interview will be set by the bank. Since the interview carries a weightage of 20% in the overall selection process, it plays a significant role in the final decision.
Final Selection
The final merit list will be created by combining scores from the Online Examination, which carries 80% weightage, and the Personal Interview, which accounts for 20%. Selection will be conducted on a state-wise and category-wise basis. Only the highest-ranking candidates in each segment will be appointed as Local Bank Officers. The bank will publish the results of every stage on its official website.
