Salary is usually the first thing candidates check before applying. For URSC Recruitment 2026 (Advt. No. URSC:04:2026), the U R Rao Satellite Centre (URSC), ISRO offers Technician-B at Pay Level 3 and Heavy Vehicle Driver-A, Light Vehicle Driver-A and Staff Car Driver-A at Pay Level 2 of the Pay Matrix.
The notification gives the basic pay and says allowances are “admissible”, but it does not publish a gross figure. This guide therefore does two things: it lists what the notification states, and it gives clearly labelled estimates of gross and in-hand pay using the current central government DA rate.

Join NowISRO URSC 2026 Pay Level & Basic Pay Explained
| Detail | Technician-B | Driver Posts |
|---|---|---|
| Pay Level (7th CPC Pay Matrix) | Level 3 | Level 2 |
| Entry basic pay | ₹21,700 | ₹19,900 |
| Posts covered | Codes 01–08 | Codes 09–11 |
| Vacancies | 46 | 15 |
Both are entry-level pay levels in the central government Pay Matrix. Technician-B sits one level above the drivers, which reflects the ITI/NTC/NAC technical qualification.
Dearness Allowance (DA)
DA is the main allowance added to basic pay, and it is revised twice a year. According to recent reports, the Cabinet raised central government DA from 58% to 60% in April 2026, effective from 1 January 2026, and the July 2026 revision had not been announced as of 21 October 2026. Reports also point to a likely rise to around 63%, but that is an expectation until the government notifies it
So the safe rate to use today is 60%.
DA on URSC Basic Pay
| Post | Basic | DA at 60% (current) | DA at 63% (if notified) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Technician-B | ₹21,700 | ₹13,020 | ₹13,671 |
| LVD-A / Staff Car Driver-A / HVD-A | ₹19,900 | ₹11,940 | ₹12,537 |
Calculated by me as basic × DA %. The July 2026 hike is a forecast and not yet official.
When a DA hike is announced, it applies from its effective date, so arrears are paid for the earlier months.
URSC Estimated Gross Salary
| Component | Technician-B | Drivers |
|---|---|---|
| Basic pay | ₹21,700 | ₹19,900 |
| DA (60%) | ₹13,020 | ₹11,940 |
| Basic + DA | ₹34,720 | ₹31,840 |
| Transport Allowance | Not paid, as free transport is provided instead | Not paid, as free transport is provided instead |
| HRA | Not paid in the usual way, since limited housing is provided instead (see note) | Same |
Gross pay at the entry stage is therefore roughly ₹34,700 for Technician-B and ₹31,800 for drivers, before any other admissible allowance. This is an estimate. The notification only says “admissible allowances,” and some ISRO centres may pay other allowances depending on posting and duty.
HRA note: The notification says ISRO provides a limited housing facility in lieu of House Rent Allowance. It doesn’t say whether HRA is paid to employees who are not allotted housing. Don’t count on HRA when planning your budget, and confirm it with the offer letter.
ISRO URSC In-Hand Salary 2026 (Estimate)
The main deduction is your pension contribution. The notification says employees are covered by the National Pension System / Unified Pension Scheme, where the employee contribution is generally 10% of basic pay plus DA.
| Item | Technician-B | Drivers |
|---|---|---|
| Basic + DA | ₹34,720 | ₹31,840 |
| Pension contribution (about 10%) | −₹3,472 | −₹3,184 |
| Estimated in-hand (before other deductions) | ≈ ₹31,250 | ≈ ₹28,650 |
Other deductions that may apply: group insurance premium, medical scheme contribution, canteen or housing charges where used, and professional or income tax where applicable. These vary with the person, so actual in-hand pay may be slightly lower.
Estimated Annual Package
| Post | Basic + DA per month | Annual (basic + DA) |
|---|---|---|
| Technician-B | ₹34,720 | ≈ ₹4.17 lakh |
| Drivers | ₹31,840 | ≈ ₹3.82 lakh |
This leaves out the value of free transport, housing, medical and other benefits, which are real savings.

Join NowPerks and Benefits – URSC ISRO 2026
The notification lists these benefits, subject to terms and conditions:
| Benefit | Details |
|---|---|
| Pension | Employees are governed by the National Pension System / Unified Pension Scheme |
| Free transport | Provided in lieu of Transport Allowance |
| Limited housing facility | In lieu of House Rent Allowance |
| Advances | For purchase of a computer and construction of a house |
| Leave Travel Concession (LTC) | Travel concession for you and your family |
| Group insurance | Group insurance cover |
| Subsidised canteen | Canteen facilities at subsidised rates |
| Medical scheme | An attractive medical scheme for employees and eligible dependents |
Why These Perks Matter
- Free transport saves daily commuting costs in a city like Bengaluru.
- Housing is limited, so don’t assume everyone gets it, but it can reduce rent significantly where allotted.
- Medical cover for dependents protects your family.
- LTC and advances add real value over a career.
Pension: NPS / UPS
The notification says employees will be governed by the National Pension System / Unified Pension Scheme. In practice, this means:
- A defined retirement benefit built on regular contributions from you and the government, not the old pension scheme
- Contributions are linked to basic pay plus DA
- The detailed rules (assured payout, option between NPS and UPS, tax treatment) are set by the government, so check the latest rules at the time of joining
Because the notification doesn’t specify these scheme details, treat the 10% figure above as an estimate.
ISRO URSC Career Growth & Salary Progression
The notification says URSC/ISRO offers career growth under its progressive merit promotion scheme for Scientific & Technical (S&T) posts:
- Promotion to higher levels is delinked from the availability of vacancies.
- Meritorious candidates can rise in the hierarchy through the periodic, merit-based Performance Review System.
- For Administration/Auxiliary posts, a vacancy-based promotion scheme is available.
What this means for pay:
- Technician-B is a technical post, so it most likely follows the S&T merit-promotion path, while drivers more likely follow the vacancy-based path. The notification doesn’t map posts to schemes, so confirm this at the time of joining.
- Under the 7th CPC pay matrix, pay normally rises through annual increments of about 3% and through promotions to higher pay levels.
- DA grows as the government raises it, which lifts your pay over time.
8th Pay Commission Note
The 8th Central Pay Commission is in process, and it doesn’t affect the current DA revision, which still follows the 7th CPC formula. If a new pay structure is notified later, pay levels may change, so treat today’s figures as the current structure.
URSC Salary vs ITI Jobs Salary
| Factor | URSC / ISRO | Private ITI job |
|---|---|---|
| Job security | High (government) | Varies |
| Pension | NPS / UPS | Usually none |
| Free transport / housing | Yes (as noted) | Rare |
| Medical for dependents | Yes | Limited |
| Career path | Merit promotion | Company dependent |
| Initial cash pay | Moderate | Can be similar or higher in some firms |
The real advantage is the total package: stability, pension, medical and perks, along with working for ISRO.
Things to Keep in Mind
- The posts are temporary but likely to continue indefinitely, so read the appointment terms carefully.
- Appointees may work round-the-clock shifts and can be posted anywhere in ISRO/DoS in India.
- Posting location can affect cost of living, though the free transport and housing facilities help.
- Gross and in-hand pay depend on the DA rate, which changes twice a year.
