A. Ex-Servicemen, Disabled Ex-Servicemen & Dependents of Servicemen Killed in Action

• Ex-Serviceman (EXS): Only candidates fulfilling the definition laid down in the Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs Notification dated 27th October 1986 (as amended, including the DoPT Notification dated 09.02.2026) are treated as Ex-Servicemen.
• Disabled Ex-Serviceman (DISEXS): An Ex-serviceman who was disabled while serving in the Armed Forces during operations against the enemy in disturbed areas.
• Dependents of Servicemen Killed in Action (DXS): Includes dependents of servicemen killed during war, warlike operations, counter-insurgency operations, peacekeeping missions abroad, mine-clearance operations, and similar specified circumstances.

The relaxation in upper age limit is not available to dependents of Servicemen killed in action. Territorial Army Personnel are treated as Ex-Servicemen with effect from 15.11.1986.

B. Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD)
