What Do You Mean By Language Proficiency?
Language proficiency means the level of your fluency in a particular language which is otherwise very difficult to master and on the basis of your language proficiency you will be accepted or rejected by the organisation. You can take into account your fluency in a particular language and then you can take a test in order to check your level of language proficiency. There are 6 different levels of language proficiency and you can take a simple test in order to know more about the level of language proficiency that you belong to. Whenever you are applying for a job such as the job of HR or any other language expert then it is the need of the hour to be very proficient in the English language as per the standards set by the organisation.
Levels of Language Proficiency
There are a total of 6 language proficiency levels currently available by the organisation and it is important that the candidates have proper information related to the language proficiency levels because you must mention your language proficiency level in your resume in order to get selected for a job which mainly comprises of conversation in English. The applicant must have a proficiency level which helps them to have a perfectly good conversation in English. Sometimes the job only requires an advanced or upper intermediate level of proficiency depending upon the use of language that will be going on during the working hours. A0/A1 English (Beginner/Elementary)
The very first language professional sea level is the beginner level. The beginner level can also be termed as the zero level or A1 English level. This level represents the people who do not have any basic knowledge of the English language and they are also not familiar with the normal phrases which are used by individuals in the English language. You can simply mention that you are a beginner or at the elementary level of the English language if you have A1 English language proficiency. The person at this level will also not be able to form any sentences or carry on a typical English conversation.
A2 English (Pre Intermediate)
The second stage of the language proficiency program is the pre-intermediate state. This stage is set by the British Council of India in order to identify the people who are able to understand the basic expressions of a native English speaker and these types of people can successfully communicate with the other person by using common expressions however it is very difficult for the free intermediate people to converse in full sentences. The people in the second stage can also recognise commonly used phrases in the English language and they can also understand the basic expressions in order to carry on a semi-decent conversation.
B1 English (Intermediate)
The intermediate level is the third level of the English proficiency program and it consists of users who can understand and also produce semi-decent text on familiar topics. The people can also give their opinions and description of the simple scenery in front of them. This stage is especially for the people who are fluent in writing English or making their point valid. People can understand the main points of clear text in standard languages if they are familiar with the topics. People can also produce simple essays in terms of the things that they are normal with but it can be quite difficult for them to carry on a conversation.
B2 English (Upper Intermediate)
The fourth stage is available for the people who belong to the upper intermediate level and they will be able to understand the main ideas of the complex text on various topics. The people will be able to also interact with the native English speaker who is fluent and speak English in their own accent. The people will also be able to produce clear and detailed essays on a wide range of subjects and they will also be able to explain their points to you if they belong to the upper intermediate level of proficiency in the English language. Most Indians are able to access the upper intermediate level of proficiency if they have been learning English in school.
C1 English (Advanced)
The fifth language proficiency level is the advanced proficiency level and the people belonging to the level will be able to understand a wide range of essays and texts which have implicit meaning in them. The users will also be able to express themselves fluently and also they will be able to speak the language spontaneously without any hesitation or stammering. The user will be able to carry on the conversation and use the language flexibility and he or she will also have proper knowledge of the metaphors and the other figures of speech that they need to use during any part of the conversation which makes them a little bit more diverse.
C2 English (Proficient)
The last proficiency level for the language is the C2 English proficiency level which is normally applied to native English speakers and normal people who can understand everything they hear in English are eligible for this level of proficiency. The user will also be able to summarise the information and the arguments spoken from different sources and he or she will be able to present them consistently and without any confusion. The last level is mostly applicable to the people who are trying for a job in the field of language. It is important for the user to have proper information related to each and every aspect of that language in order to be a part of the C2 English proficiency level.
