ISRO Technical Assistant Vacancy 2026: Branch-Wise Details
Mechanical Engineering has 7 of the 14 posts, which is half of the vacancies, while Electrical and Computer Science have just one each.
| Post code | Branch | Vacancies | Category-wise split | Posting |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 07 | Mechanical Engineering | 7 | UR 1, OBC 1, SC 2, ST 2, EWS 1 (1 post for PwBD, Hard of Hearing) | SDSC SHAR |
| 08 | Electrical / Electrical & Electronics Engineering | 1 | OBC 1 | SDSC SHAR |
| 09 | Computer Science & Engineering | 1 | UR 1 | SDSC SHAR |
| 10 | Electronics & Communication Engineering | 3 | UR 2, SC 1 | SDSC SHAR or Propellant Complex Rasayani |
| 11 | Civil Engineering | 2 | OBC 1, EWS 1 | SDSC SHAR |
| Total | 14 |
- If no suitable PwBD (Hard of Hearing) candidate is found for post code 07, that post stays vacant and is carried forward to the next recruitment.
- For post code 10 you give an order of preference between Sriharikota and Rasayani (Raigad, Maharashtra). Posting follows merit and preference, and you cannot claim a different location later.
- Vacancy numbers are provisional, and SDSC SHAR can change them or not fill a post.
- The 7 Ex-Servicemen posts in this notification are in post codes 16 to 28, so none are reserved for ESM in the Technical Assistant posts.
- Because one vacancy exists in each of three branches, a single reserved seat can decide who gets in. Check the split for your category before you apply.
ISRO Technical Assistant Eligibility Criteria 2026 – Age & Qualification
You need a first class diploma in the branch of the post, from a recognised university or institution, with a course length of at least 3 years. The diploma must be in your hands on or before 9 November 2026.

- If you claim that your diploma is equivalent to the advertised one, you must show proof certified by the university or institution at the skill test.
- Candidates already employed in Central or State Government, PSUs or autonomous bodies must produce a No Objection Certificate.
- Functional requirements for these posts: sitting, standing, bending, reading and writing, seeing and hearing.
- Only Indian nationals can apply, and canvassing leads to disqualification.
Age limit
The age limit is 18 to 35 years as on 9 November 2026. SC/ST candidates get 5 years’ relaxation and OBC candidates 3 years, but only against posts reserved for those categories. Ex-Servicemen, PwBD (at least 40% disability), Central Government servants and meritorious sportspersons get relaxation as per Government of India orders.
SC/ST/OBC/EWS candidates do not need a second application for unreserved posts. They are considered for the unreserved seats as well if they meet the conditions.

ISRO Technical Assistant Selection Process and Exam Pattern 2026
Selection has two stages, an online written test (CBT) and a skill test, but your rank comes only from the written test. The skill test is a go / no-go stage, and its marks are not counted.
| Stage | Pattern | Qualifying marks |
|---|---|---|
| Written test (CBT) | 80 MCQs in 1.5 hours, +1 per correct answer, 0 for unattempted, -0.33 per wrong answer | Unreserved 32 / 80, Reserved 24 / 80 |
| Skill test | 100 marks, qualifying only | Unreserved 50 / 100, Reserved 40 / 100 |
- The written test checks both theory and practical knowledge across the breadth and depth of the prescribed curriculum. No separate syllabus is printed in the notification.
- Based on written test marks, candidates are shortlisted category-wise for the skill test in a 1:5 ratio to the vacancies, with a minimum of 10 candidates, and called in batches.
- The final panel follows written test marks up to the number of vacancies. A tie is broken first by the academic score in your diploma and then by age, with the older candidate ahead.
- Bring originals of all certificates to the skill test. Anyone who cannot produce them is rejected immediately.
