SSC CGL Exam Pattern 2026
1. SSC CGL Tier 1 Exam Pattern
The SSC CGL Tier 1 Exam 2026 will be conducted as a Computer-Based Examination. It consists of four sections with 25 questions each, making a total of 100 questions for 200 marks. The total examination duration is one hour, with a sectional timer of 15 minutes for each subject. There is a negative marking of 0.50 marks for every incorrect answer.

2. SSC CGL Tier 2 Exam Pattern
The SSC CGL Tier 2 Examination 2026 consists of Paper I, Paper II and Paper III. Paper I is compulsory for all posts. Paper II is conducted for candidates shortlisted for Junior Statistical Officer (JSO) and Statistical Investigator Grade-II posts. Paper III is conducted for candidates shortlisted for Assistant Audit Officer (AAO) and Assistant Accounts Officer (AAO) posts.

Important Points About Tier 2
- Paper I is compulsory for all posts.
- Paper II is applicable to shortlisted JSO and Statistical Investigator Grade-II candidates.
- Paper III is applicable to shortlisted AAO and Assistant Accounts Officer candidates.
- Paper I is conducted in two sessions on the same day.
- Session I contains Sections I, II and III.
- Session II contains Section IV, the Data Entry Speed Test (DEST).
- Candidates must qualify all sections of Paper I separately.
- There is 1 mark negative marking for each wrong answer in Sections I, II and III of Paper I.
- There is 0.50 mark negative marking for each wrong answer in Paper II and Paper III.
- The Computer Knowledge Test is qualifying in nature.
- DEST is also qualifying in nature.
3. SSC CGL Tier 3 Exam Pattern
The SSC CGL Tier 3 examination is not conducted under the 2026 scheme. The official SSC CGL 2026 notification specifies only Tier I and Tier II under the Computer Based Examination structure. Therefore, the old descriptive Tier 3 section should be removed from the blog rather than simply changing the year.
4. SSC CGL Tier 4 Exam Pattern
There is no separate Tier 4 examination in SSC CGL 2026. The skill-based components are incorporated into Tier II Paper I through the Computer Knowledge Test and Data Entry Speed Test.
SSC CGL Skill Test
The SSC CGL 2026 Tier II Paper I includes the Computer Knowledge Test (CKT) and Data Entry Speed Test (DEST). The CKT is included as Section III, while DEST is included as Section IV. Both are qualifying components, although higher qualifying standards apply to certain posts.
DEST is conducted for 15 minutes and involves a passage of approximately 2,000 key depressions. SSC states that DEST is mandatory for all posts and qualifying in nature, with higher qualifying standards prescribed for certain posts.
For posts where computer proficiency is prescribed, SSC also applies higher qualifying standards for CKT and DEST. The notification specifically identifies posts including Assistant Section Officer in CSS, MEA and AFHQ, Assistant in SFIO, Assistant in GSI, Assistant in the Indian Meteorological Department, certain Inspector posts, Executive Assistant in CBIC and Postal Assistant/Sorting Assistant, among others.
