BPCL Selection Process 2026: Step-by-Step
The BPCL selection process for Non-Management posts (Process Technician, Process Operator/Operator, Technician) comprises three stages. Here is every detail from the official notification:
STAGE 1 – Computer Based Test (CBT)
This is the primary screening stage and carries the highest weightage in the BPCL selection process.
BPCL 2026 Exam Pattern:
- Total 100 objective type (Multiple-Choice) questions
- 1 mark per question
- Total duration: 120 minutes
- No negative marking for wrong answers
- Exam conducted in English only
Section-wise Marks Distribution:
| Section | Marks |
|---|---|
| Domain Knowledge | 60 marks |
| General Aptitude (English Language, Quantitative Aptitude, Logical Reasoning, General Awareness & Current Affairs) | 40 marks |
| Total | 100 marks |
Other CBT details:
- The CBT for a post may be conducted in one, two, or three sessions in a single day, depending on the number of candidates.
- Candidates will be asked to indicate their preferred Test City in the online application. However, these preferences are indicative only and do not guarantee allotment of the same test city. BPCL reserves the right to allot any test centre based on administrative exigencies and availability of infrastructure.
- The date and city/centre of CBT will be communicated via Call Letter (sent over email), approximately 10 days prior to the scheduled CBT date.
- Candidates must visit the BPCL Careers website to download the call letter using their Registration Number and Password.
- Candidates must affix a recent recognizable photograph on the call letter (same as provided during registration) and carry it to the exam centre.
- Candidates must bring to the exam centre:
- The Call Letter (with photo affixed)
- A currently valid Photo Identity Proof bearing exactly the same name as on the call letter — acceptable proofs include Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, Voter ID Card, Passport, Permanent Driving Licence, Bank Passbook with photograph, Photo ID issued by a Gazetted Officer on official letterhead, Photo ID issued by a People’s Representative on official letterhead, valid College/University ID, E-Aadhaar Card with photograph, or Employee ID
- A photocopy of the same Photo ID proof brought in original
- Merely qualifying the CBT does not confer any right or claim to be shortlisted for the SPT or final selection. Shortlisting for Stage 2 depends on:
- Number of positions available
- Reservation position/category-wise vacancies
- The ratio applied by BPCL
- Relative performance of candidates within their respective category
- Meeting all notified eligibility criteria
- Documents/certificates being found in order upon verification
STAGE 2 – Skill/Proficiency Test (SPT)
Only candidates who qualify in the CBT as per the cut-off marks decided by the Corporation will be called for SPT.
- SPT is conducted at the respective refinery locations (Mumbai Refinery for Post Code A; Kochi Refinery for Post Codes B, C, D).
- SPT is of a “qualifying nature” only — meaning it does not carry marks that add to a merit list; a candidate either qualifies or does not.
- Only candidates who qualify the SPT will be reckoned for selection.
- Selected candidates must meet all notified eligibility conditions, and final selection is subject to document/certificate verification at this stage.
Documents required at SPT (based on notification requirements):
- Original SC/ST/OBC(NCL)/PwBD/EWS certificates (as applicable), in the prescribed proforma
- OBC (NCL) candidates must submit a self-undertaking at the time of SPT, in terms of DOPT memo No. 36012/22/93-Extt.(SCT) dated 08.09.1993, confirming they belong to the Non-Creamy Layer
- PwBD candidates must submit a disability certificate issued by a Competent Authority as prescribed under the RPwBD Act, 2016
- EWS candidates must submit the original Income and Asset Certificate, valid for financial year 2025-26 (based on income/asset verification for FY 2024-25). The certificate must clearly mention the caste name (not just “General/Samanya”), and must have the applicant’s photo pasted, signed, and stamped by the issuing authority. No extension of time will be given for producing this certificate — failure to produce it at SPT means the candidate will not be allowed to appear for SPT
- If any category certificate (SC/ST/OBC(NCL)/PwBD/EWS) is issued in a language other than English/Hindi, a self-certified translated copy in English or Hindi must be submitted
- Candidates already employed in Govt/Govt Departments/PSUs/Autonomous Bodies must submit a “No Objection Certificate” at the time of SPT (if shortlisted)
Rail fare reimbursement (SC/ST/PwBD candidates only):
- Single second-class sleeper rail fare is reimbursed for travel from the nearest railway station (from mailing address) to the CBT/SPT venue and back, by the shortest route
- Applicable only if the distance is not less than 30 km
- Reimbursement is on production of the ticket
STAGE 3 – Pre-Employment Medical Examination
Final appointment is subject to candidates meeting Medical Fitness norms and standards as per BPCL’s Pre-Employment Medical Examination/Medical standards.
- Candidature remains provisional until appointment is confirmed.
- For PwBD candidates specifically, medical fitness is assessed considering the nature of duties, job location, hazard, strain, and other job-related factors — ensuring the condition will not interfere with reasonable performance of duties or cause deterioration of health. Final appointment for PwBD candidates is based on this fitness assessment relative to the identified post’s job profile.
Guidelines on BPCL Non-Management Selection Process 2026
- No right to appointment: Merely fulfilling eligibility criteria or clearing an exam does not vest any right in a candidate to a post. All appointments are made purely at BPCL Management’s discretion after verifying suitability.
- Category change not allowed: Once a candidate selects their category (GEN/SC/ST/OBC(NCL)/PwBD/EWS) in the online application, no request for change will be considered, and relaxation/concession will not be extended later.
- Unreserved post applicants from reserved categories: SC/ST/OBC(NCL)/PwBD/EWS candidates applying against unreserved posts are considered under general standards only — no relaxation in age, qualification cut-off, or selection process cut-off marks.
- Tie-breaker preference: For Post Codes B, C & D, if all other selection parameters are equal, preference is given to erstwhile Kochi Refinery Project Evictees.
- Joining timeline: Selected candidates (including ex-servicemen) must join within 30 days of the offer. BPCL can reject candidature or rescind the offer if the candidate fails to join within this period.
- False information: Furnishing wrong/false information at any stage — even if discovered after appointment — makes the candidate liable for termination without notice, and the appointment is treated as void ab-initio.
- Canvassing: Any form of canvassing during any stage of the recruitment process leads to cancellation of candidature.
- Management’s discretion: BPCL reserves the right to cancel, restrict, enlarge, or modify the recruitment/selection process at any time without prior notice or assigning reasons.
- Jurisdiction for disputes: Bombay High Court for Post Code A; Kerala High Court for Post Codes B, C, D (combined).
