Overview of IOB Apprentice Selection Process 2026

As per the notification, selection will be made on the basis of:

1. Online Written Examination
2. Test of Local Language (wherever applicable)
3. Personal Interaction (if decided by the Bank)
4. Medical Fitness Examination
5. Document Verification

Merely satisfying the eligibility norms does not automatically entitle a candidate to be called for the Online Examination or Personal Interaction. The Bank reserves full discretion over each stage of the process.

Stage 1: Online Written Examination (Objective Type) – IOB Apprentice 2026

This is the first and most crucial stage of the selection process. It is a computer-based objective-type test conducted online.

• Total Duration: 90 minutes
• Exam Mode: Online, taken remotely by candidates themselves
• Tentative Exam Date: 02.08.2026

How the IOB Apprentice 2026 Online Exam Will Be Conducted 

• Only candidates who have paid the examination fee will receive an intimation from the BFSI Sector Skill Council of India (BFSI SSC) with the date and time of the exam.
• Candidates must give the exam using their own front-camera-enabled desktop, laptop, tablet, or smartphone.
• Candidates are required to display the same ID proof (for image capture) that was uploaded at the time of registration on the apprenticeship portal.
• No one else is allowed to be present near the candidate while taking the online exam — except for PwBD candidates, for whom specific guidelines will be issued by the exam-conducting agency.
• Detailed exam-day instructions will be shared via an “Information Handout”, sent by email to all eligible candidates by BFSI SSC.

IOB Apprentice 2026 Qualifying Marks & Merit Criteria

• Candidates must score a minimum aggregate percentage as decided by the Bank.
• 5% relaxation in the minimum aggregate is available for SC/ST/OBC/PwBD candidates.
• There is no minimum qualifying mark for individual subjects — only the overall aggregate matters.
• Final selection is purely merit-based, subject to reservation rules.
• Tie-breaker rule: If two or more candidates score the same marks at the cut-off point, the candidate senior in age will be ranked higher in the merit list.

Stage 2: Test of Local Language – IOB Apprentice 2026

This is a crucial and often overlooked stage, since IOB apprentice seats are state-specific.

• Candidates applying for a particular state’s vacancies must be proficient in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding at least one of the specified local languages of that state.
• This test is conducted after qualifying the online written exam, typically during the document verification stage.
• Candidates who fail the local language test will not be engaged as apprentices, regardless of their written exam score.
• Exemption: Candidates who submit their 10th or 12th standard mark sheet/certificate as proof of having studied the specified local language are not required to appear for this language test.

Stage 3: Document Verification / Personal Interaction – IOB Apprentice 2026

• Conducted at Centre(s) across India as decided by the Bank (physical mode).
• Intimation for date, time, and venue will be shared via email from BFSI SSC.
• Change of date requests will NOT be entertained under any circumstances.
• The Bank reserves the right to change, add, or cancel the date/time/centre/venue of the document verification/personal interaction, or hold a supplementary process for specific candidates, at its sole discretion.
• Candidates must carry originals + self-attested photocopies of all eligibility documents (see the detailed document list in the eligibility blog). Failure to produce these documents will debar the candidate from further participation.

Stage 4: Medical Fitness Examination – IOB Apprentice 2026

• Final engagement of selected candidates is subject to being declared medically fit by a duly qualified medical practitioner engaged by the Bank, or through MBBS doctor certification, as per the Bank’s discretion.
• Until medical fitness, character, antecedents, and caste validity are satisfactorily verified, the engagement remains provisional.

IOB Apprentice 2026 Merit List, Result & Waitlist Policy

• Results of candidates qualifying various stages, and the final selected list, will be published on the official website.
• Waitlist Policy: A state-category-wise waitlist will be maintained for one year from the date of result, or until the next engagement cycle — whichever is earlier.
• Waitlisted candidates will be released against non-joining vacancies, subject to availability of qualified candidates.

IOB Apprentice 2026 – Grounds for Disqualification During Selection

Candidates found guilty of any of the following at any stage — even after being selected — will be disqualified and/or terminated:

1. Using unfair means during the selection process
2. Impersonating or helping another person impersonate a candidate
3. Misbehaving with Bank/BFSI SSC officials, or photographing exam questions from the laptop/mobile screen
4. Resorting to irregular/improper means, including canvassing for candidature or obtaining support through any means

Consequences:

• Disqualification from the current engagement process
• Debarment (permanent or for a specified period) from any future examination/engagement process conducted by the Bank
• Liability for criminal prosecution, where applicable

• The engagement of selected candidates is provisional until medical fitness, document verification, and character/caste verification are completed satisfactorily.
• The Bank reserves the right to change the selection procedure if necessary.
• The Bank’s decision at every stage of the selection process — eligibility, exam conduct, personal interaction, and final selection — is final and binding on all candidates. No correspondence will be entertained.
• Selected candidates are NOT treated as “employees” of IOB and are not entitled to employee benefits.
• The Bank has no obligation to offer regular employment after completion of the apprenticeship period.
