Follow these ISRO URSC Preparation Tips 2026 to study smarter and stay focused on your exam goals. Get expert strategies, effective study methods, and time management tips to improve your performance and prepare confidently for the examination.
Tip 1: Master the Exam Pattern First
Technician-B
- 80 MCQs in 1.5 hours
- +1 for correct, –0.33 for wrong
- Written test is qualifying; pass marks 32/80 (unreserved) and 24/80 (reserved)
- Skill test of 100 marks; pass marks 50 (unreserved) and 40 (reserved)
- Syllabus is curriculum based on your ITI/NTC/NAC trade
HVD-A, LVD-A and Staff Car Driver-A
- 100 MCQs in 120 minutes
- +1 for correct, –0.25 for wrong
- Part A: Motor Vehicles Act (50), Part B: English (15), Part C: Arithmetic (15), Part D: GK (20)
- 50% needed in Part A, and 50% in Parts B, C and D combined
- Driving skill test of 100 marks, with 60 needed to qualify
Tip 2: Check Your Eligibility Before You Start
Wasted effort is the biggest risk, so confirm these points first:
- Technician-B: SSLC/SSC/Matriculation plus ITI/NTC/NAC in the trade of the post you apply for
- LVD-A and Staff Car Driver-A: SSLC pass, 3 years as a light vehicle driver, valid light vehicle licence
- HVD-A: SSLC pass, 5 years of experience (at least 3 as a heavy vehicle driver), valid HVD licence and Public Service Badge if statutory
- Experience must come after you got your licence, from government, semi-government, registered companies, societies or trusts. Part-time experience and certificates from individuals are not accepted.
- Your age, qualification and experience are counted as on 13.11.2026.
Tip 3: Make a Realistic Study Plan
| Phase | Days | Focus |
|---|---|---|
| Foundation | 1–10 | Complete the syllabus once, make short notes |
| Strengthening | 11–20 | Deep study of weak topics, topic-wise tests |
| Practice | 21–25 | Previous papers, sectional tests |
| Final | 26–30 | Full mock tests daily, revision |
Study 3–4 focused hours daily if you are working, and 6 hours or more if you are preparing full time.
Tip 4: Driver Posts – Prioritise the Motor Vehicles Act
Part A carries 50 of 100 questions and has its own 50% cut-off, so you cannot pass without it.
- Read the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 chapter by chapter
- Focus on licensing, registration, traffic control, insurance, offences and penalties, accident claims and Claims Tribunals
- Learn mandatory signs and make a picture chart
- Make a one-page table of penalties and licence rules
- Revise it every three days
Tip 5: Technician-B – Build on Your ITI Trade
- Revise your ITI trade theory, which is the base of the paper
- Add workshop calculation, engineering drawing and safety basics
- Solve trade-wise MCQs daily
- Keep a formula and definition notebook
Tip 6: Score Easy Marks in English, Maths and GK (Driver Posts)
- English (15): Learn synonyms, antonyms, correct verbs and fill-in-the-blank patterns. 15–20 new words a day is enough.
- Arithmetic (15): Practise percentage, ratio, average and the four basic operations. Learn tables and squares.
- GK (20): Cover current affairs, who is who, states and capitals, and Indian geography. Read about ISRO missions such as Chandrayaan-3, Aditya-L1 and Astrosat, and systems like INSAT, IRS and NavIC.
Parts B, C and D are counted together for the 50% cut-off, so one strong part can cover a weaker one.
Tip 7: Take Mock Tests Every Week
- Attempt full mock tests in exam conditions with a timer
- Analyse every wrong answer and write down why you missed it
- Track your score trend, and aim to clear the pass marks with a safe margin
- Increase to daily mocks in the final week
Tip 8: Manage Negative Marking
- Technician-B loses 0.33 per wrong answer, and driver posts lose 0.25
- Answer the questions you are sure of first
- Guess only when you can remove at least two options
- Do not leave easy questions for last
Tip 9: Prepare for the Skill Test Too
For Technician-B, the skill test carries 100 marks. For driver posts, it is a driving test, qualifying only, and you must score 60/100 with no relaxation for any category.
- Practise regularly in the vehicle category you applied for
- Know your vehicle’s basic checks, controls and safety practices
- For Technician-B, practise practical work from your trade
Tip 10: Keep Your Application and Documents Perfect
Many candidates lose their chance through avoidable mistakes.
- Fill in the online application carefully, because it cannot be edited after submission. You may re-apply, and the latest application with the fee paid will count.
- Use a working email ID, because hall tickets are sent by email only
- Upload a clear photo (white background, 3.5 × 4.5 cm, .jpg/.jpeg, 100–200 KB) and signature (80–150 KB)
- Keep qualification, experience and category certificates ready
- Pay the fee online by 13.11.2026. Everyone pays ₹500 first, and ₹400 is refunded to candidates who appear in the written test. Women, SC/ST, PwBD and ex-servicemen get a full refund.
Tip 11: Stay Updated and Avoid Fake Offers
- Follow only the official websites www.isro.gov.in and www.ursc.gov.in
- Corrigenda are published only on those sites, not in newspapers
- ISRO warns candidates against fake appointment letters and canvassing, and canvassing leads to disqualification
Last-Week Checklist
- Revise short notes and formulas
- Attempt 1–2 full mock tests daily
- Review all mistakes
- Recheck your hall ticket details and exam centre
- Sleep well and eat light before the exam
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Ignoring the Motor Vehicles Act and relying only on general knowledge
- Skipping mock tests until the last week
- Neglecting negative marking
- Applying without checking eligibility or experience rules
- Uploading unclear photos or signatures
