Kerala PSC 10th Level Selection Process 2027 – Detailed
1: Which Year First Assembly Election was held in Kerala?
KPSC’s 10th level process involves a Common Preliminary Exam, a Main Exam or Skill Test, and further stages based on merit and the specific post.
Stage 1: Online Application
- Apply through the Thulasi profile using the post’s category number. Applying is free.
- Keep your profile accurate, since the details are checked later.
- Read the full steps in our “How to apply online” guide.
Stage 2: Confirmation of Participation
This is the stage most candidates forget.
- For common prelims, KPSC announces a confirmation window on its website.
- For the 1 August 2026 prelims, candidates had to confirm through their Thulasi profile before 11 June at midnight.
- No confirmation means no hall ticket. Confirmed candidates are then split across exam stages and centres.
- In the Degree prelims of 2026, only 5.55 lakh of 26.77 lakh applicants confirmed. The same pattern applies at 10th level, which shrinks the real competition.
Stage 3: Common Preliminary Examination
The prelims is a screening test for many posts at once.
| Feature | Details |
|---|---|
| Mode | OMR (pen-and-paper) |
| Questions and marks | 100 objective MCQs, 1 hour 15 minutes |
| Negative marking | +1 for each correct answer, 0.33 deducted for each wrong answer, no penalty for unanswered questions |
| Medium | Malayalam (Tamil and Kannada for some posts) |
| Held in stages | The 2026 prelims ran in stages. Stages 3 and 4 were held on 1 August 2026. |
Section-wise marks (as per one prep source)
The paper carries 60 marks for General Knowledge, Current Affairs and Renaissance in Kerala, 10 for Natural Science, 10 for Physical Science, 10 for Simple Arithmetic, and 10 for Mental Ability and Observational Skills. Always confirm against the official syllabus in the notification.
Tips for the prelims
- Attempt a question only if you can eliminate at least one or two options, because wrong answers cost marks.
- Revise Kerala renaissance and current affairs heavily, as they carry the most marks.
- Practise OMR bubbling with a timer.
Stage 4: Shortlisting (Cut-Off)
- After the prelims, KPSC publishes post-wise cut-off marks and a shortlist for the next stage.
- Candidates must secure marks above the cut-off to be shortlisted.
- Cut-offs depend on the number of candidates, difficulty level and number of vacancies, so they change every cycle.
- Check results through Thulasi > Results / Shortlist.
Stage 5: Main Examination or Post-Specific Test
Only shortlisted candidates take this stage, and the format depends on the post.
Main exam (written)
- The main exam is usually an OMR or objective test, commonly around 100 marks. The pattern varies by notification.
- LDC: The paper carries 1 mark per correct answer and 0.33 deducted for each wrong answer, with 50 marks for General Knowledge and 20 for Current Affairs, and the remaining marks covering other sections. Check the exact split in the notification.
- Village Field Assistant: the exam is 2 hours long, with question papers in English, Malayalam, Tamil and Kannada.
Posts without a main exam
- Some posts use a single-stage written test. For BEVCO LDC, the test was a single-stage OMR exam with 100 questions in 75 minutes, and reports say there was no negative marking. Rules differ by post, so never assume.
Skill or physical tests
- Some posts add a typing test (for example LD Typist) or a physical and endurance test (for example Fireman). These are named in the notification.
Stage 6: Document Verification
Candidates in the shortlist or rank list must prove their claims with originals.
- Candidates must produce original certificates for age proof, SSLC or equivalent qualification, community certificate and age relaxation (if eligible).
- Bring other certificates listed in the notification, such as ex-serviceman, disability, experience or district-related proofs.
- A mismatch in name or date of birth can lead to rejection, so fix any errors early.
Stage 7: Interview?
For most 10th level posts there is no interview. LDC selection normally includes an OMR written exam, document verification and a district-wise rank list, with generally no interview stage. Final selection rests largely on your written marks plus verification. This is why even one mark can change your rank.
Stage 8: Rank List Preparation
- KPSC prepares a rank list from the final marks, following reservation and communal rotation rules.
- Lists include a main list, a supplementary list and lists for differently abled candidates. For BEVCO LDC, the list included the main list, supplementary list and differently-abled categories.
- Posts like LDC and LGS get district-wise lists.
- The LDC list was published on 1 August 2025 with a validity of 3 years
Stage 9: Advice Memo and Appointment
- Departments report vacancies to KPSC over time. KPSC then advises candidates rank-wise, category-wise and district-wise, based on reported vacancies.
- Your advice memo appears in your Thulasi profile and is also sent to you.
- The department then issues the appointment order. You must join within the stated period. If you don’t, the vacancy becomes an NJD vacancy for others.
- Your chance depends on your rank and the number of vacancies reported during the list’s validity.
