The Kerala PSC Lab Assistant Eligibility Criteria 2026 explains the age limit, educational qualifications and other conditions required for applicants. Candidates must meet the prescribed requirements to be considered eligible for the Laboratory Assistant (Dairy/CFP) post under Category No. 162/2026.
1. Educational Qualification
The notification requires a B.Sc degree in one of these four subjects from a recognised university:
- Chemistry
- Bio Chemistry
- Biotechnology
- Microbiology
Equivalent or higher qualifications. The notification also accepts qualifications that the Government has declared equivalent to the prescribed one by executive or standing orders. Qualifications that presuppose the lower qualification are also sufficient. For example, a higher degree built on the required B.Sc may be considered. You must produce the copy of the Government order declaring the equivalence or higher status whenever the Commission asks for it.
Rule 10(a)(ii) of Part II, KS&SSR. The notification states that this rule applies to the selection. Read it in the Part II General Conditions to understand how your qualification will be assessed.
If your degree title does not match the four subjects exactly (for example, a combined or differently named programme), collect the Government equivalence order before you apply. Without that proof, your application may be rejected at verification.
2. Age Limit
- Age range: 18 to 44 years.
- Date of birth: You must be born between 02/01/1982 and 01/01/2008, both dates included.
This means anyone born on or before 01/01/2008 has turned 18, and anyone born before 02/01/1982 is over the general upper limit. The exact dates matter more than your age in years, so check your date of birth against them.
3. Age Relaxation
The notification gives relaxation to specific groups. The relaxation conditions are in Part II of the General Conditions, and the notification points to sub paras i, ii, iii, iv, vi, vii and xiv of Para (2).
Standard relaxation:
- Candidates from the Other Backward Community (OBC) and SC/ST communities get the usual age relaxation.
Overall ceiling:
- In no case may the maximum age exceed 50 years, even after all concessions.
Special relaxation for provisional employees of co-operative institutions:
- This applies to provisional employees of the 29 co-operative institutions listed in G.O.(P) No. 41/98 dated 09.03.1998.
- They must have been appointed through the Employment Exchange, and this applies whether they are still in service or have been relieved.
- They must have at least one year of provisional service.
- Relaxation is limited to the length of their provisional service, up to a maximum of five years.
- It is a one-time concession. Once you get a regular appointment, you cannot use it for any other post.
Documents for this relaxation:
- Fill in the details in the relevant column of the application.
- When the Commission asks, submit the original certificate from the Head of Office, Head of Department or Appointing Authority of the co-operative institution.
- The certificate must state the post held, scale of pay, institution, date of joining and date of termination. It must also confirm that you are not holding a regular appointment in a co-operative institution.
- The original certificate is not returned.
4. Who Can Apply: General Category vs Society Category
This notification is Part I, for general open market candidates. Do not mix it up with the Society Category.
- General Category (Part I): Open to all eligible candidates, which is this notification.
- Society Category (Part II): Reserved for employees of MILMA’s member and primary co-operative societies, such as Regional Co-operative Milk Producers Unions and Primary Anand Pattern Dairy Co-operative Societies (APCOS). A separate notification will be issued for it.
The vacancies are shared 1:1 between the two categories, with the first position going to the General Category. Appointments follow the reservation rules in General Rules 14 to 17 of Part II, KS&SSR, 1958.
5. Reservation for Differently Abled Candidates
4% of vacancies are reserved for persons with disabilities under G.O.(P) No. 5/2023 SJD dated 01/10/2023, in line with Section 34 of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016. Eligible candidates should read the Part II conditions and keep their disability documents ready.
Kerala PSC Lab Assistant 2026 – Profile and Application Process
Meeting the qualification and age is not enough. You must also comply with these application rules:
- One Time Registration is mandatory. Register at www.keralapsc.gov.in before applying.
- Only one profile. Creating multiple profiles can lead to forfeiture of your candidature.
- Photograph. New profiles must upload a photo taken within 6 months, with your name and the photo date printed legibly at the bottom.
- Aadhaar. If you have an Aadhaar card, add it as ID proof in your profile.
- Accurate details. You are responsible for the correctness of your personal information. A submitted application cannot be edited or deleted.
Documents to Keep Ready for Verification
Original documents must be produced when the Commission asks for them. Keep these ready:
- Degree certificate and mark lists
- SSLC book or birth proof for the date of birth
- Community certificate and Non-Creamy Layer certificate (if applicable)
- Gazette Notification for any difference between the community claimed and the one in your SSLC book
- Government equivalence order (if your degree is not an exact match)
- Provisional service certificate (if claiming co-operative institution relaxation)
- Disability certificate (if applicable)
If you get a profile message asking for uploads, submit them within the stipulated time. Otherwise you will not be considered for the next stage.
Mistakes That Can Make You Ineligible
- Applying with a degree outside the four listed subjects and no equivalence order
- Misreading the age limit and the date-of-birth window
- Claiming age relaxation without the required certificate
- Creating duplicate profiles
- Giving false information about qualification or community
Bogus claims can lead to disqualification, permanent or temporary debarment, cancellation of test results, removal from service and criminal proceedings, under Rule 22 of the Kerala PSC Rules of Procedure.
