Stage 1: Online Application
Selection starts with a valid online application through One Time Registration at www.keralapsc.gov.in. There is no application fee. Submitted applications are provisional and cannot be edited or deleted. Duplicate profiles can lead to forfeiture of candidature.
Stage 2: Scrutiny of Applications
The Commission checks whether each application meets the notification conditions. The notification states that an application will be summarily rejected if non-compliance is found at any point in processing. The checks cover:
- B.Sc in Chemistry, Bio Chemistry, Biotechnology or Microbiology (or approved equivalent/higher qualification)
- Date of birth between 02/01/1982 and 01/01/2008
- Applying under the correct category (Part I, General)
- A single, correctly filled profile
Stage 3: Confirmation to Write the Examination
If a written, OMR or online test is conducted, you must confirm through your One Time Registration profile that you will write it.
- Only candidates who confirm can generate and download admission tickets.
- Admission tickets are available during the last 15 days before the test date.
- Applications of candidates who do not confirm within the stipulated period are rejected absolutely.
- The confirmation period and admission ticket dates are published in the Examination Calendar, and notices are sent to your profile and registered mobile number.
Tip: Check your profile and mobile messages regularly after the application period.
Stage 4: Written / OMR / Online Test
The notification states that a written, OMR or online test may be conducted as part of this selection, so the Commission has not fixed the mode. If a test is held, expect the following, based on how Kerala PSC usually works. These are not stated in this notification:
- Type: Objective (multiple-choice) papers are common for such posts, but the exact format will come in the syllabus and exam calendar.
- Subjects: Likely a mix of subject knowledge (Chemistry, Biochemistry, Microbiology, dairy laboratory basics) and general topics such as General Knowledge, Current Affairs and Renaissance in Kerala.
- Syllabus: Published by the Commission on its website. Download it as soon as it appears.
Do not rely on unofficial exam patterns. Wait for the official syllabus and exam calendar. With only one vacancy, the Commission could also shortlist candidates before the test, as it often does when applications are numerous. The notification does not say so, so treat this as possible, not confirmed.
Stage 5: Certificate Verification
Applications are accepted on your claims, and original documents are checked only when the Commission calls for them. Be ready with:
- Degree certificate and mark lists
- SSLC book or birth proof for date of birth
- Community certificate and Non-Creamy Layer certificate (if applicable)
- Gazette Notification if your claimed community differs from your SSLC book
- Government equivalence order (if your degree is not an exact match)
- Provisional service certificate (if claiming age relaxation for co-operative institution service)
- Disability certificate (if applicable)
If you receive a profile message asking you to upload documents, do it within the stipulated time. Otherwise you will not be considered for the next stage.
Stage 6: Preparation of Separate Rank Lists
This is where MILMA’s selection differs from many other posts.
- Separate rank lists are prepared for the General Category (open market candidates, this notification) and the Society Category (employees of MILMA’s member and primary co-operative societies, under a separate Part II notification).
- The rank list stays in force for a minimum of one year and a maximum of three years.
- It will not continue after the first year if a new rank list for the post is published.
- If no candidate is advised within three years, validity is extended by one more year or until at least one candidate is advised, whichever is earlier.
Stage 7: Advice for Appointment
Once the lists are ready, candidates are advised against reported vacancies as follows:
- Candidates are advised alternately from the General and Society lists, with the first position going to the General Category.
- The 1:1 ratio applies to vacancies reported by MILMA.
- If the Society list is short of candidates, those vacancies are filled from the General list. Passed-over vacancies are not compensated later.
- Appointments follow the reservation rules in General Rules 14 to 17 of Part II, KS&SSR, 1958.
- 4% of vacancies are reserved for persons with disabilities under G.O.(P) No. 5/2023 SJD dated 01/10/2023.
Being on the rank list does not guarantee a job. Advice depends on vacancies actually reported to the Commission during the life of the list.
Stage 8: Appointment and Probation
Appointment is by Direct Recruitment. The selected candidate serves two years on probation, on duty, within a continuous period of three years, as per Rule 184 of the Kerala Co-operative Societies Rules (KCS). The pay scale is ₹29,490 – ₹85,160.
Kerala PSC Lab Assistant 2026 – Exam Preparation Tips
- Apply early. Submit well before 02/12/2026 and save your application copy.
- Confirm for the exam. Missing this step means automatic rejection.
- Watch the official site and your profile. The Commission may announce the exam date, syllabus and verification notices there.
- Prepare the core subjects. Revise chemistry, biochemistry and microbiology fundamentals, plus laboratory techniques, safety and basic dairy testing.
- Cover general topics. General Knowledge, Current Affairs and Kerala-specific topics usually carry marks in Kerala PSC tests.
- Keep documents ready. Late uploads can end your candidature.
- Be honest. False claims can lead to disqualification, debarment or criminal action under Rule 22 of the Kerala PSC Rules of Procedure.
