Before you apply for any Kerala PSC 10th level post, check whether you are eligible. A wrong date of birth, a missing certificate or an age miscalculation can get your application rejected, sometimes only at document verification. This guide covers every eligibility rule for SSLC-level posts such as LDC, Office Attendant and LGS, so you can check yourself before the 2027 notification arrives.
The 2027 notification is expected around November to December 2026, but it is not official yet. The criteria below are based on the last notified cycles. The gazette will confirm the final rules for every post.
Kerala PSC 10th Prelims Eligibility Criteria 2027 – Age, Qualification & Rules
| Criteria | Details (based on last notifications) |
|---|---|
| Educational qualification | SSLC / 10th pass or an equivalent qualification |
| Age limit | Varies by post. LDC was 18 to 36 for general candidates |
| Age relaxation | SC/ST, OBC, ex-servicemen, persons with disabilities and others, as per rules |
| Nationality | Indian citizen |
| Registration | Active Kerala PSC Thulasi profile |
| Application fee | None |
| Other conditions | Language, district, physical and medical conditions for specific posts |
1. Educational Qualification
Basic requirement: a pass in the SSLC examination or an equivalent qualification recognised by the government.
- For LDC, applicants must have passed SSLC or hold an equivalent qualification. Typists with SSLC and at least four years of regular service were also eligible in the last notification.
- A higher qualification (Plus Two, degree or PG) does not disqualify you, provided you have passed SSLC or its equivalent. Possessing a higher qualification does not disqualify a candidate if SSLC or its equivalent is completed.
- Some posts add extra conditions, such as a technical certificate, a trade qualification, a driving licence or a typing certificate. Always read the “Qualifications” row of the notification.
- Your qualification must normally be complete on or before the last date of application, unless the notification says otherwise.
2. Age Limit
Age limits are set post by post in each notification.
- General candidates: 18 to 36 years.
- The relaxed limit was up to 41 years for SC/ST candidates and up to 39 years for OBC candidates.
How the date-of-birth window works on age limit
KPSC counts your age as on 1 January of the notification year. The window shifts forward each year.
Example for 2027 (illustrative): if a December 2026 notification keeps the 18 to 36 rule with 1 January 2026 as the reference date, the eligible birth dates would be about 02.01.1990 to 01.01.2008. This is not official. The gazette will state the exact dates.
3. Age Relaxation
| Category | Relaxation (usual rule) |
|---|---|
| SC / ST | 5 years |
| OBC (Other Backward Communities) | 3 years |
| Ex-servicemen | As per service rules |
| Persons with disabilities | Additional relaxation as per rules |
| Provisional / government employees | Where the notification allows it |
| Qualified sportspersons and others | As per government orders |
Key rules to remember:
- If you qualify for relaxation under more than one category, you get only one concession
- The upper age limit, including all concessions, shall not exceed 50 years
- Earlier notifications gave OBC candidates 3 years and SC/ST candidates 5 years on the upper age limit
- Relaxation is claimed through your Thulasi profile and verified with certificates later.
4. Nationality and Citizenship
- You must be an Indian citizen.
- Some posts accept other categories only as per specific government rules. The notification will say so.
- You need a valid Kerala PSC Thulasi profile, regardless of nationality.
5. District and Language Conditions
- District-wise posts: some posts are filled district by district. You must choose a district while applying, and the notification may tie eligibility to that choice.
- Language: for certain posts, you may need knowledge of Malayalam (or Tamil/Kannada in border areas). Check the notification.
6. Physical and Medical Fitness
Most clerical posts such as LDC need only normal medical fitness. Posts such as Fireman and other uniformed jobs carry physical standards, such as height, chest and endurance tests. These figures are post-specific, so check them in the notification before applying.
7. Other General Conditions
- You should not have been dismissed or removed from government service.
- You should have no criminal or conduct disqualification under PSC rules.
- You must meet the general conditions in the KPSC rules and in the notification.
