SSC Stenographer Exam Pattern 2023
SSC Stenographer exam is conducted in two stages:
- Stage 1 : Computer Based Test
- Stage 2 : Skill Test
The Computer Based Test (CBT) has three sections as tabulated below:

The Computer Based Test will contain MCQs and is of 2 hours duration. There will be negative marking for incorrect answers; 0.25 marks will be deducted for every wrong answer.

The SSC Skill Test is conducted to test the speed of the candidates. All aspirants will be given 10-minute dictation in English and Hindi to note down. All candidates need to write 100 words per minute for Grade C and 80 words per minute for Grade D posts.

- There is a negative marking in the SSC Stenographer Grade ‘C’ and ‘D’ 2023 Tier 1 Exam.
- There will be a negative marking of 0.25 mark for every wrong answer. {REVISED}
- The exam duration is 2 hours and 40 minutes for candidates who are visually handicapped.
- The questions except in Part III will be set both in English & Hindi.
SSC Stenographer Exam Pattern Tier 2
Candidates who obtain the qualifying marks in the Written Examination as may be prescribed by the Commission will only be called for the Skill Test. It may also prescribe qualifying marks in each part of the Written Examination.
- The skill test will be of qualifying nature.
- The candidates will have to appear for the stenography test.
- The shorthand test will have to be done on the Shorthand Notepad and the same has to be transcribed on a computer.
- The skill test language can be either English or Hindi.
The transcription time is as follows:-
- For Stenographer Group ‘D’: 80 words per minute (w.p.m) for 8 Minutes
- For Stenographer Group ‘C’: 100 words per minute (w.p.m) for 10 Minutes
SSC Stenographer C & D Interview Details
There is no Interview conducted for SSC Stenographer Exam. On the basis of the same merit is generated and the candidates who successfully clear all the Phases are appointed for the post in the requisite Government Department or Ministry.
