The State Bank of India (SBI) has invited applications from eligible commercial/ schedule bank employees towards the SBI Circle Based Officers (CBO) positions. Across India, SBI will hire 3850 candidates for 07 circles. The selected CBO officers will be in probation for 06 months and once they complete this they will get appointed in Junior Manager Scale positions. The Officers who achieve the predetermined standards by the end of probation period may be confirmed and given placement in the next higher grade i.e., Officer Middle Management Grade Scale-II, others who qualify in the test but fail to achieve the standards set for placement in Middle Management Grade Scale-II will be hired as Officer Junior Management Grade Scale-I. The Circle Based Officers (CBO) selection in the State Bank of India (SBI) has two stages of screening:
- Shortlisting, and
- Personal Interview
If the number of applicants is high, then SBI may conduct a preliminary stage written examination for the further screening process. SBI will declare the merit list on State-wise, and category wise.

SBI CBO Job Profile
1: What does the acronym "ATM" stand for in banking?
The Circle Based Officers (CBO) will be subjected to continuous assessment during the probation period for judging their suitability for confirmation. The candidates who qualify in the SBI assessment as per standards determined by the Bank from time to time will be confirmed in the service of the Bank in the Junior Management Grade Scale-I (JMGS-I). If any of the candidates fail to achieve minimum standards stipulated, his/ her services may be terminated as per the policy of the Bank in force at the material time. The selected officers will be in the general cadre and will be governed by the promotion policy applicable for Bank’s general cadre officers. The selected candidates will not be entitled to inner-circle transfer up to his/ her promotion to SMGS-IV Grade OR 12 years of service, whichever is later.

Difference between SBI PO and SBI CBO?
- For SBI Probationary Officers (PO) experience is not required, while SBO CBO recruitment demands two years of experience in any commercial or scheduled banks. The SBI CBO is not for the freshers and recent graduates.
- The Probation period for SBI PO and SBI CBO is 1 year and 06 months respectively.
- SBI PO has three levels of screening (written tests and interview), the SBI CBO has only personal interview stage.
- For SBI PO, the Basic Pay is Rs. 27,620/- with 4 increments, while the basic pay for SBI CBO would be Rs. 23,600/- with 1 increment.
If you are working in any commercial banks or regional banks like ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank etc, then you are eligible for the CBO position.
