The puzzles are always tricky to answer quickly. The way a candidate approaches the question is very much important. There are no “easy” ways to answer them. Practice and practice is the only shortcut. Reading the sentences carefully, noting each point, and arranging the point diagrammatically will help to answer the questions. Usually, puzzles will be asked for 5-25 marks. So, this is not a portion to skip!

U and V are two boys and W and X are two girls. There are four adults, out of which E and F are two men and G and H are two women. There are two cars – Toyota and Maruti – each of which can accommodate four persons only. Two children and two adults must be in one car. U and F cannot be in one car. E and X cannot go in one car. G and H cannot go in one car. There must be two males and two females in each car.
1. If E and U go in one car, then who can be the other two members in the car?
a) F and V
b) H and W
c) F and G
d) H and G
e) None of these
2. Which of the following statements is definitely true?
a) E, H, U, and W is not a correct combination
b) F, G, V, and X is not a correct combination

Solution: Here the arrangement of persons should be done. These are based on criteria like gender and age. Conditions like U and F, X and E, G, and H cannot be in the same car. Also, there should be 2 males and 2 females in each car.
1) Option b, as E and U are males, it needs 2 females. So a & c can be avoided. Then we know G and H cannot be in the same car.
