IBPS RRB Clerk Selection Process 2026: The IBPS RRB Clerk Selection Process 2026 for the post of Office Assistant (Multipurpose) consists of Preliminary Examination, Main Examination, and Provisional Allotment. Candidates must qualify in both sections of the Preliminary Examination to be shortlisted for the Main Examination. There is no interview for the IBPS RRB Clerk post. Final merit is prepared based on the marks obtained in the Main Examination, and shortlisted candidates are provisionally allotted to an RRB based on merit, reservation guidelines, preferences, and the actual vacancies reported by the RRBs of the State/UT applied for.

According to the IBPS RRB 2026 notification, the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for November/December 2026, while the Main Examination is scheduled for December 2026/February 2027.

The IBPS RRB Clerk 2026 selection process consists of the following stages:

1. Preliminary Examination
2. Main Examination
3. Provisional Allotment

The Preliminary Examination is the first stage. Candidates must qualify in both tests of the Prelims by securing the prescribed minimum cut-off marks. Based on the Prelims performance and the number of candidates required, eligible candidates are shortlisted for the Main Examination.

For Office Assistants (Multipurpose), there is no interview. The marks obtained in the Main Examination are considered for the final merit list. Candidates shortlisted for provisional allotment are allotted to participating Regional Rural Banks based on merit, reservation guidelines, administrative requirements, preferences, and the actual vacancies reported by the RRBs of the State/UT applied for.

The preliminary Examination will consist of objective type questions and the exam will be held online. The question paper will be bilingual (English/Hindi).

Note:- Candidates must qualify in both tests by securing the minimum cut-off marks prescribed by IBPS. An adequate number of candidates, depending on the requirements, will be shortlisted for the Main Examination.

IBPS RRB Clerk 2026 Main Examination 

The Main Examination will consist of objective type questions and the exam will be held online. The question paper will be bilingual (English/Hindi).

NB:- Candidates can choose either English Language or Hindi Language as applicable. The other tests are conducted in the prescribed medium mentioned in the official notification.

IBPS RRB Clerk Final Merit

For Office Assistants (Multipurpose), candidates must obtain the minimum required score in each test of the Main Examination. However, merely qualifying individual tests is not sufficient; candidates must also score sufficiently high in the overall merit.

Only the marks obtained in the Main Examination are considered for the final merit list. Prelims marks are not added to the final score.

IBPS RRB Clerk Negative Marking 2026

The IBPS RRB Clerk exam has negative marking in both the Preliminary and Main examinations. For every wrong answer, 0.25 marks (one-fourth of the marks assigned to that question) will be deducted. There is no negative marking for questions left unanswered.

Candidates should therefore avoid making random guesses and attempt questions carefully, especially when they are not confident about the answer.

Language Proficiency Test

Candidates qualified must be proficient in the language specified by RRB’s. Candidates who have already studied the language of the State in Std VIII or any level above Government recognized Boards of Education/ School or have any certificate of Std VIII or any level above Std VIII would be considered proficient in that local language. If the candidate does not meet the requirement in the local language at the time of selection, he will be given a time of six months from the date of joining to acquire the proficiency. This period can be extended by the Boards of RRB’s within the framework of the rules and provided that such extension should not be beyond the probation period.

• Mark-sheets & certificates for Graduation or equivalent qualification etc. Proper document from Board / University for having declared the result has to be submitted.
• Caste Certificate
• Income and Asset Certificate
• Disability certificate
• Ex-Servicemen category should submit Proforma B from the Competent Authority showing his/her date of completion of a specific period of engagement (SPE) along with the declaration in Proforma C.
• Candidates serving in Government / quasi govt offices/ Public Sector Undertakings (including Nationalized Banks and Financial Institutions) are required to produce a “No Objection Certificate”
• Persons eligible for age relaxation should bring the relevant documents related to it.
• Any other relevant documents in support of eligibility.

IBPS RRB Allotment 2026

After the completion of the various steps of the section process, IBPS publishes the final list of qualified candidates through the official website. The preliminary round of the selection process is also qualifying in nature and the candidates need to score a specific cutoff so as to qualify in that round of the examination. After the preliminary examination, mas examination will be conducted and the candidates who qualify for the mains will be eligible to join for the job under the posts.
