Syllogism for bank exam: Are you looking forward to a government job? If so, then make sure to prepare for the various fields of questions that you can expect in any sort of competitive exam. Apart from the subject knowledge, the candidates who are applying for the various competitive exam should have a minimum practice in the field of reasoning, syllogism, logical questions etc. The necessity for such sections can be seen especially when you are attempting for a government exam or bank exam like IBPS, RBI, SBI associate Clerk, RRB. Syllogism Notes for Bank Exams

Terms used in Syllogism

Commonly, there are two parts in syllogisms, which are namely Premises/propositions and Conclusions/inference.

A premise or proposition is a sentence that makes a declaration and therefore, provides a relation within two or more sessions. In logical deductions, any statement is known as a proposition or premise.

Example: Some green are not white, All windows are rods, No cloth is a bay, Some students are members

Parts of Proposition or Premise

Subject: A subject is that part of the proposition on which something is being maintained.

Predicate: A predicate is the role of premise indicating that which is asserted or rejected about the subject.

Premises are split into Universal and Particular accounts, they are also classified into positive and negative observations. The following are essential sorts of the premise:

  1. Universal positive proposition
  2. Universal negative proposition
  3. Particular positive Proposition
  4. Particular negative proposition

Deductions in Syllogisms: Rules

  1. Each deduction should include three and only three different terms.
  2. If both those premises in the provided statements are negative, No Resolution can be described.
  3. If both the premises are accurate, no Conclusion can be formed.
  4. The middle word must be given at least once on the premises.
  5. If one premise is negative, then that conclusion must be also in the form of negative.
  6. If one proposition is accurate, then the conclusion must be negative.
  7. No word can be given in the conclusion if it is not distributed on the premises.

Questions on Syllogism – Reasoning for Bank Exams 2021

1. Directions: (1 -20): In each question below, there are three or four statements followed by four conclusions numbered I, II, III and IV. You have to take the given statements to be true even if they seem to be at variance with commonly known facts and then decide which of the given conclusions logically follow(s) from the given statements.

Statements: All cups are circle

Some circles are drums All drums are blue Conclusions:

  1. Some blue are cups
  2. Some blue are circles
  • Some drums are cups
    1. Only I follow
    2. Only II follows
    3. Only III follow
    4. All I, II and III follow
    5. None of these

2. Statements:

Some bikes are cycles Some cycles are trains Some trains are rocket Conclusions:

  1. Some trains are cycles
  2. Some trains are bikes
  • Some rockets are bikes
    1. Only I and II follows
    2. Only I and III follow
    3. Only II and III follow
    4. All I, II and III follow
    5. None of these

3. Statements: All dogs are pets

Some pets are rats All rats are bats Conclusions:

I) Some bats are pets II)Some bats are dogs

  • Some rats are pets
    1. Only I and II follows
    2. Only II and III follow
    3. Only I and III follow
    4. All I, II and III follow
    5. None of these

4. Statements: All pens are cats All cats are rings All rings are mats Conclusions:

  1. Some rings are pens
  2. Some mats are cats
  • Some mats are pens
    1. Only I and II follows
    2. Only I and III follow
    3. Only II and III follow
    4. All I, II and III follow
    5. None of these

5. Statements:

Some tables are sticks All sticks are houses All houses are buildings Conclusions:

  1. All houses are sticks
  2. Some buildings are sticks
  • Some houses are tables
    1. Only II and III follow
    2. Only I and II follows
    3. Only I and III follow
    4. All I, II and III follow

6. Statements:

Some boxes are chairs No chairs are roads All roads are tents Conclusions:

  1. Some tents are chairs
  2. Some roads are boxes III)No chairs are tents
    1. Only either I or II follows
    2. Only either I or III follows
    3. Only either II or III follows
    4. All I, II and III follow
    5. None of these

7. Statements: All cups are stars Some stars are jugs No jug is glass Some glasses are tables Conclusions:

  1. Some tables are stars
  2. Some glasses are cups
  • No table is stars IV)Some jugs are cups
  1. a) Only I and II follows
  2. b) Only I, II and III follow
  3. c) Only either I or III follows
  4. d) Only either I or III follows
  5. e) None of these

8.Statements:

Some chairs are bottles All bottles are pots

All pots are rats Some rats are buses Conclusions:

  1. I) Some buses are bottles
  2. II) Some rats are chairs

III)      No bus is bottles

  1. IV) Some rats are bottles
  2. a) Only I and II follows
  3. b) Only I, II and III follow
  4. c) Only either I or III and III follow
  5. d) Only either I or III and IV follow
  6. e) None of these

9. Statements:

All birds are handles All handles are tigers Some tigers are real Some real are monkeys Conclusions:

  1. I) Some tigers are handles
  2. II) Some monkeys are birds

III)      Some tigers are birds

  1. IV) Some monkeys are handles
  2. a) All follow
  3. b) Only I and III follow
  4. c) Only II and IV follow
  5. d) Only I and IV follow
  6. e) None of these

10. Statements

Some umbrellas are sticks. Some sticks are balls. Some balls are bats. All bats are guns.

Conclusions:

  1. Some balls are umbrellas.
  2. Some guns are bats.
  • Some sticks are
  1. Some balls are guns.
  2. Only I, II and IV do not follow
  3. Only I and III did not follow
  4. Only III and IV did not follow
  5. Only II and IV did not follow
  6. None of these

11. Statements:

Some cards are notebooks. Some notebooks are dictionaries. Some dictionaries are files. All files are envelopes. Conclusions:

  1. Some envelopes are
  2. Some files are
  • Some cards are
  1. No dictionary is an
  2. All not follow
  3. Only I, II and III not follow
  4. Only II and III do not follow
  5. Only III and IV did not follow
  6. None of these
