Kerala PSC LGS Eligibility Criteria 2027 – Age & Qualification
1: Which Year First Assembly Election was held in Kerala?
In February 2026, the Kerala Cabinet approved an increase in the upper age limit for PSC jobs from 36 to 40 years, and from 36 to 45 years for SC/ST candidates, according to news reports. This may affect the age limit of the next LGS notification.
So while the 2025 notification used 18 to 36 years, the 2027 notification may allow a higher upper age. Please check the new notification for the exact age limit and the cut-off date for counting your age.
1. Educational Qualification
The basic qualification for Kerala PSC LGS is a pass in Standard VII or an equivalent qualification. This means:
- You do not need SSLC, plus two or a degree to apply.
- A pass certificate from a recognised school or board is enough.
- Candidates claiming an equivalent qualification must be able to produce proof of equivalence when asked.
LGS is meant for candidates with lower educational qualifications, so read the notification carefully for any conditions about higher qualifications before you apply.
2. Age Limit
General Age Limit in the Last Notification
The 2025 notification set the age limit at 18 to 36 years. Only candidates born between 02.01.1989 and 01.01.2007 (both dates included) were eligible to apply.
How Age Is Counted
Kerala PSC counts age as on a fixed date given in the notification. You should be at least 18 on that date and not above the upper limit. Even a one-day difference can lead to rejection, so check your date of birth carefully.
Possible Change for 2027
Because of the Cabinet decision to raise the PSC upper age limit, the 2027 notification may show a higher limit. Until the official notification is released, treat the 40-year figure as a news-based update and not as a confirmed LGS rule.
3. Age Relaxation
Kerala PSC gives age relaxation to eligible categories. The exact number of years depends on the Kerala State and Subordinate Services Rules and the notification. Commonly applicable categories include:
- SC/ST candidates: Relaxation as per government rules
- OBC candidates: Relaxation as per government rules
- Ex-servicemen: Relaxation based on years of service, with conditions
- Differently abled candidates: Relaxation as per rules
- Other categories: As listed in the general conditions of the notification
The total relaxation has an overall ceiling in most cases, so combining several concessions is not always possible. Read the general conditions section of the notification for the details that apply to you.
4. Knowledge of Cycling
The last LGS notification (423/2025) required knowledge of cycling. Women and differently abled candidates were exempted from this requirement.
In simple terms:
- If you are a male candidate without a disability, you should know how to ride a bicycle.
- Kerala PSC may verify this during the selection process, so being able to ride is important.
- Women and differently abled candidates do not need to meet this condition.
This condition can differ between notifications, so confirm it in the 2027 notification.
5. Nationality and Residence
- Candidates should be citizens of India.
- The notification may also have conditions about domicile or the language medium of the exam. Candidates are generally expected to be able to read and write the required language. Kerala PSC conducts the paper in Malayalam, Tamil and Kannada, so you can choose a medium as allowed.
