You can read the whole syllabus and still lose marks in the exam. The usual reason is that the person never practised under exam conditions. A Kerala PSC LGS mock test fixes that. It trains you to read questions quickly, handle negative marking, manage time and stay calm over 100 questions.
This guide explains what an LGS mock test is, what types you should attempt, how to analyse your score, and how to plan your practice. It also includes a 20-question sample mock test with answers that you can try right now.
Why Mock Tests Matter for Kerala PSC LGS Exam 2027
A mock test is a practice paper built to match the real LGS exam. It has the same sections, the same marks split, objective (OMR-style) questions and a time limit. After you submit, you get your score, the correct answers and an explanation for each question.
- They build exam temperament. A timed paper with negative marking feels very different from casual revision.
- They expose weak areas. If you lose marks in arithmetic or Kerala geography every time, you know exactly where to spend your study time.
- They improve speed and accuracy. LGS is a race. Regular practice helps you answer easy questions fast and keep time for harder ones.
- They fix guessing habits. You learn when to attempt a question and when to skip it.
- They help you revise. Every explanation you read is a quick revision of a syllabus topic.

Types of LGS Mock Tests You Should Attempt
1. Topic-wise tests. Short tests of 10 to 25 questions on a single topic, such as Kerala rivers, Renaissance leaders, vitamins or LCM and HCF. Use them while you study a topic.
2. Section-wise tests. Tests for a whole section, such as 60 marks of GK for prelims or the 20-mark arithmetic and mental ability section. Use them once you finish a section of the syllabus.
3. Full-length mock tests. A complete 100-mark paper in the exact format of the prelims or mains. Start these about two months before the exam.
4. Previous-year-based tests. Papers modelled on past LGS exams. These show you the question style and difficulty. Pair them with solving actual [LGS previous year question papers].
5. Current affairs tests. Short weekly or monthly tests on recent events from India and Kerala. They matter most for the mains, where current affairs carry 20 marks.

Join Now!How to Score and Analyse Your LGS Mock Test 2027
Taking the test is only half the job. Use this method after every mock test.
Step 1: Calculate your score. Score = (Correct answers × 1) − (Wrong answers × ⅓), subject to the marking scheme in the official notification.
Step 2: Sort your mistakes into three groups.
- Knowledge gaps: You didn’t know the fact. Add it to your revision notes.
- Careless errors: You knew it but misread the question or made a calculation slip. Slow down and underline keywords.
- Wrong guesses: You guessed and lost marks. Decide in advance when you will skip a question.
Step 3: Track section-wise performance. Use a simple table like this one.
| Section | Questions | Correct | Wrong | Skipped | Accuracy |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kerala and Renaissance | |||||
| India history and civics | |||||
| Science | |||||
| Arithmetic | |||||
| Mental ability |
Step 4: Revise before you retest. Study the weak topics from the syllabus, then take another test a few days later and compare your scores.
Common Mock Test Mistakes to Avoid
- Taking tests without a timer. Time pressure is part of the exam.
- Taking only full-length tests. Topic-wise tests build knowledge, and full-length tests build stamina. You need both.
- Skipping the explanations. The explanation is where most of the learning happens.
- Treating the score as the goal. The aim is steady improvement, so compare your scores over weeks.
- Giving up current affairs. Even a basic daily routine pays off, since current affairs are worth 10 to 20 marks.
- Leaving mocks for the last week. Start early so you have time to fix what you find.
