Kerala PSC Fireman Eligibility Criteria 2025 – Age, Qualification
The Kerala Public Service Commission (KPSC) has announced the eligibility criteria for the post of Fireman in 2025. Check the eligibility criteria, such as age limit, education etc below.
Age Limit
- 18-26 years.
- Only candidates born between 02.01.1997 and 01.01.2005 (both dates included) are eligible to apply for this post.
- Other Backward Communities, Scheduled Caste converts and SC/ST candidates are eligible for usual age relaxation as provided under sub rule (c) of the Rule 10 of the General rules. Other conditions regarding the age relaxation are not applicable to this post.
Educational Qualification
- Pass in Plus Two or its equivalent.
- Preferential : Diploma in Computer Application
- In addition to the qualifications prescribed in the Notification, the qualifications recognized by executive orders or standing orders of Government as equivalent to a qualification specified for a post, in the special rules or found acceptable by the Commission in cases where acceptance of equivalent qualifications is provided for in the rules and such of those qualifications which pre-suppose the acquisition of the lower qualification prescribed for the post, shall also be sufficient for the post. The copy of the Government Orders declaring equivalent/ higher qualifications shall be produced as and when required by the Commission.
Physical Test
Must qualify in any of the five events out of eight events specified below of the National Physical Efficiency, One Star Standard Test.

Swimming
The proficiency in swimming will be tested by a practical test conducted by the Commission. The following are the criteria for the swimming test.
- 50 m swimming trial to be completed within two minutes.
- Two minutes floating ability at the deeper side of the swimming pool.
- Candidate must qualify both the events to be considered as qualified in the swimming test.
Physical Efficiency Test
Candidates must qualify in at least 5 out of 8 items in the National physical efficiency One Star Standard test.

Note: (a) The Physical Measurement of the candidates will be taken prior to the Physical Efficiency Test and those who do not possess the prescribed Physical Measurements will not be admitted for the Physical Efficiency Test.
(b) If accidents or injuries happen to a candidate while participating in the Physical Efficiency Test, he will not be given further chance to participate in the test.
Medical Certificate
Candidates should produce a Medical Certificate issued by a Medical Officer not below the rank of a Civil Surgeon as to the candidate’s physique, fitness and capacity for rough outdoor work and also of the visual standards. Candidates should produce Medical Certificate in original in the following format as and when called for by the Commission
Kerala PSC Fireman Selection Process 2025
Selection to the post of Fireman 2025 will be made on the basis of a Competitive Test of the Plus Two Standard.
Last year, the process of recruiting candidates for the position included three stages: the preliminary examination, the main examination, and the interview. It should be noted that only those who pass each stage will be considered for shortlisting. This is done to ensure that only the most qualified and competent people are chosen for the position. As a result, all applicants must thoroughly prepare for each stage of the recruitment process and present their skills and abilities to the best of their abilities.
Post-Selection Process for Kerala Fireman Recruitment 2025
Once selected, candidates for the Fire and Rescue Officer (Trainee) position will go through a detailed post-selection process, which includes preferential treatment, a probationary period, and training. Below is an overview of these steps.
Preferential:
In cases where all other conditions are equal, Home Guard Volunteers who have completed a tenure of three years in the organization and have successfully undergone Fire Fighting training during their service will be given preferential consideration for direct recruitment to the Fire and Rescue Officer (Trainee) post.
Probation:
Any individual appointed to this post will be on probation for a period of two years, starting from the date they join duty after completing the training and examination. The probation period must be completed within a continuous three-year period.
Training:
The training consists of six months at the State Fire Service Training School or any other designated institution, followed by passing the prescribed course examination. After the theoretical training, there will be six months of practical training at a Fire Station, with another examination at the end of the practical phase.
Note:
(i) A written and practical test will be conducted during the last fortnight of the training period. Candidates who fail either or both tests will have their training extended for an additional month and retested. The Director of Fire & Rescue Services will allow a third opportunity for any recruit who fails the re-test.
(ii) Seniority among recruits who successfully pass the test conducted by the Fire and Rescue Services Academy will be determined based on the advice from Kerala Public Service Commission. They will be appointed to service based on the seniority list only after successful completion of training.
Bond:
Candidates appointed through direct recruitment to the Fire and Rescue Officer post will be required to sign a bond, committing to serve in the department for seven years. If they fail to serve for the specified duration, they will be liable to pay a penalty amount as prescribed by the government.
